That is because they knew next to nothing about advancing technology. They lived thinking life would remain the same forever. But we now know how fast technology can improve so imagining the future becomes much easier. Well think about it this way, 2000 years ago no one knew what would happen today. They thought they had reached the pinnacle of technology. Today we have many technologies people 2000 years ago couldn't even come up with a concept with. But think in 2000 years, it'll be nothing we can think of now, because all that stuff can be invented in the next 150 years. We can't possibally think of the future technology of 2000 years from now.
Think about it, would you rather watch a cat and mouse beat each other up for 10 minutes, or watch a group of 4 teenagers and a dog that can talk, solve cases. I love both shows, but Scooby Doo imo is better.
