If i were you I wouldn't rule out overheating so quickly. I have a similar issue with some games, where the game would run fine, smooth as butter for 5 minutes or so, and then the game would freeze for 30-60 sec, and then get back to where it stopped as if nothing happened. I had this going on for a LONG time, but because it only happened in some games I didn't really care. Well, yesterday I happened to finally leave a temp monitor on in the background while I was playing.... Turns out my card was reaching almost 90C during these freezing times. So I moved a fan I'm using in the room next to the comp and aimed it in such a way as to help the exhausting fan (blowing air through a side opening, towards the back of the case), and the freezing was gone (temps dropped down to low 80's).
I myself don't have 7 fans, but I have a big fan up front (I forgot how many inches are the larger ones...), one on the back, and a big ass zelman on my CPU aiming to exhaust air directly out an opening in the side of the case. The video card itself is a oldish GF7900GT, the CPU's an antique P4 3.0 GHZ .
So, what I'm trying to say is, leave a temp monitor in the background once and check the temps, just to be sure.

ive got an onboard temp monitor and when I am playing Crysis, the temps never get above 85-90 F. I dont have it under a desk either. It sitting out in the open. I have 2 huge fans that make up part of the seven in my case. I will try a fan an open up the side to see if that works....keep you guys informed and thanks a ton.
