Of course it's Planescape: Torment. Personally, I think that if your answer was anything else, you should probably be reevaluating your definition of a cRPG. It had an amazing story, a unique setting, interesting and one of a kind characters, and gave you a range of ways to play your character. What more could you ask for?Alaris83

Decent combat system.... I think they should have went with the Fallout turnbased-system, then it would have been perfect

What's this fuss about Mass Effect? It has terrible dialogue from what i've seen and it's going to be published by EA. You know what that means, don't you ?

And Fallout 3 is being made by people who have absolutely no idead what makes a Fallout game and they want to make a bag of money of the Fallout name, so you know how this will end up...

Mass Effect is published by Microsoft, and obviously you haven't seen much because it has some of the best dialogue I've seen in a game. If you want to rip on Bioware, talking about their writing is not a good way to go about doing it. And so far(I'm about half way through), the voice work is all very well done also.

My bad, i didin't even know it's out (probably because i never visit the xbox section). I think i rushed a bit with that comment, still i have to see it to believe it.

And as for Fallout 3, i think it will be the case of Oblivion, which had a good foundation, but just lacked the rpg aspects terribly..

Artur, I agree. I played the Morrowind to the hilt. I've big gripes against Oblivion too.

But I played Torment and Baldur's Gate (Just the 1st one) and Icewind Dale, and Neverwinter.

I loved the dialogue. That's the strong point in all of BioBware's games is the convincing dialogue. I wish the Elder Scrolls games had it! But Bio's games are to linear for me.

Is there another genre out there? Wide Open Role Playing Game (as in Elder Scrolls)

vs. the BioBware Negotiate the Maze Role Playing Game (NMRPG)???

FALLOUT 1,2 is the answer for you. You can go wherever you want and do anything you want.

FPS gamers got bored after some time, so they need that extra "RPG" flavor and since they are the majority.....

We still have The Witcher though, which shows that mature RPGs are still popular

I used to play mostly FPS games, but after some time i realized how dull they are. Now, most of the time, i play RPGs and of course some simulations (cars, sports, planes and so on) for those times when i have a healthy doze of RPG experience :)

I also used to play RTS, but after some time i realized how much i suck at them

I just love when these forum trolls make troll polls.

Anyway, just to clear things up, here is a true rpg list:

1. Fallout series

2. Vampire: The masquerade - Bloodlines

3. The Witcher

4. Planescape Torment

5. BG series

One also should not forget Gothic series, NWN is ok i guess...
