This Is Rather Odd....

So I had to read Pride and Prejudice for my English class. I had already seen the newer movie (2005), and I thought it was the classic chick-flick. In other words, not my type. But upon reading the novel, and watching the 1995 version in class, the story really started to come alive. I mean, I've never liked romance/drama material, and this should be no exception, but it is.

My paper was on (no, I didn't chose it) the causes of Elizabeth's prejudice against Darcy, and I must say it was rather eye-opening. I'll just say it, Jane Austen is a genius and P&P rocks. The story and the way it is written is fascinating to me.... somehow. If you think I've lost my mind, feel free to say so.

This might be over the edge, but I felt like I was learning some romance tips (what to do, and what not to do). Yes it was set in the 1700's; who cares. But most of all, the lessons have to do with the title itself. Pride. Prejudice. They are a fog that surrounds us and the people we converse with, imparing our vision. Until we destroy this fog, we will never see the true character of a person- only what we percieve.

Here are some pretty sweet vids made by fans. The first is clips of the latest movie to the amazing music of my homie Hans Zimmer. The second uses a Josh Groban song. Yes, I like Josh Groban and I'm proud of it.

Well I've successfully applied to Memphis, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M. The one I go to depends on the one I get accepted to which level of scholarship the Air Force gives me + other scholarships. Yay:roll:

In case anyone's interested, here's the resume I sent in.... minus all the info at the top. Unfortunately it all had to be on one page.

Air Force ROTC it is!

So I completed the online application for an ROTC scholarship a few weeks ago, and I met with the Memphis AF admissions officer to schedule an interview. I really think this is going to be awesome. I love the air force and the military in general, and through my experience in the Civil Air Patrol I already have an assload of training. Is it as good as the Academy? Certainly not. But both paths produce great Air Force officers. My brother will be an officer through the academy in 3 years and I will in 5. Now I just need to improve my ACT a few points and let the adventure begin:)

Leaving for a Week

Dear Dudes,

Sunday, July 8, I will be catching a plane early in the morning to Edinburg Indiana to attend to National Emergency Services Academy. Of that event, I'll be attending the National Ground Search and Rescue School. Of that school, I'll be taking the Emergency First Responder course. I've always been into search and rescue, mainly through Civil Air Patrol, but this very well may be the most hardcore thing I've ever done. Here's a cut-out from my acceptance package that describes it:

"Course Description:

This course fulfills all requirements of the Department of Transportation's First Responder curriculum and upon successful

completion will certify the student in: First Responder - Emergency Medical Care, CPR for the ProfessionalRescuer, and provide a

certificate of concentration in Disaster / Wilderness EMS. This

course is designed to be academically, clinically, and physically challenging.

Topics that will be covered are: scene safety, basic academic study skills, CPR

review, anatomy, physiology, adult and pediatric patient assessment skills, airway

management, oxygen administration, shock management, bleeding management,

environmental injuries / management, fracture management, spinal

immobilization, transportation, scene management, confined space assessments,

ladder skills, basic vehicle extrication, disaster skills, basic firefighting, basic

operational medicine skills, aerosol / blood pathogen training, crisis negotiation

skills, scene safety, and emergency medical services operations.

All Instructors are full time providers of Emergency Medicine that have extensive

knowledge and experience in the field of disaster medicine, emergency medicine,

and pre-hospital care."

So there you have it. I know it'll be intense, but I'm pretty dog on dern excited:D I'll be back Saturday night, the 14th.

See yall later!

My present car, and my dream car

This is the car I have now. It's a 86' Mazda RX7 GXL (not turbo), with auto-adjusting suspension.

Mazda RX7

In comparison, this is the car I'm going to have in a few years. 1993 Mazda RX7 (twin turbo). 295 HP Rotary. This car has one of the top 10 power/weight ratios of any car ever built.

So, what thinkest thou?

It's Way Too Close

So over the last year or so, my mom has been saying less what-am-I-gonna-do-with-yous, and more what-are-you-gonna-do-with- yourselfs. And the answer is always the same- I don't know. And what's more amazing is that I try to make myself out to know what I want to do with my life to certain individuals or groups of individuals, but I really just don't have a clue. And what's worse are the expectations. My brother went to the Air Force Academy. And of course he had it all planned out since we were little kids. Toppable? I think not.

Yet, while I may not have a clue, I do have some criteria. My career must be:

1) Adventurous. Boys will be boys, right? Maybe not rock climbing, but you get the point. Something dangerous is a few or so ways.

2) Spontanious. I really don't care where I get sent at whatever notice. Random things happen in this world, so the call for heroism comes to random guys like me.

3) Thought-provoking. I love figuring stuff out.... which is amazing, because if you look at my ACT scores I'm obviously not a genius. But then, I hate that brain cell killing test so I don't see how I would do well on it. We poor right-brained thinkers......:P

4) Mocho. You knew it was coming. I would love to do my work while carrying a weapon. Getting buff is also good.

Some of you are probably thinking "well go into the military". Well I might do that, but just as a way to start my life. And a way to pay for college- that's always good. But I do not want to make a career out of the military. The rest of you are thinking "liek dood have you taken an aptitude test???", and yes, I have. The same results have come up since, like, 5th grade. My attitude is "seeker" and my calling is "investigator". So, after doing some research just a few hours ago, I decided that the Secret Service, the CIA, and the FBI were all fine organizations. And they pay out the butt.... 400 grand per year as a start. I really don't care about that though, I just think it would be fun.

This all coming from a guy who's going to be thinking differently in a few days. Just watch.

Question to Atheists

Here's a simple question to anyone who doesn't believe in God. Why do animals reproduce? Rather obvious, eh? Maybe, to keep the species alive? Yeah, that one hit the nail on the head. But why keep the species alive?
Because it's good for the Earth..... Maybe. But that's not even a valid answer, because when it comes down to it, Atheism is based on one thing- circular reasoning. It doesn't take much intelligence to say "that's the way it is because that's the way it's always been." Everyone is this world is faced with the fact the this world is orderly and well designed. Some people think about it with their own intelligence, and others choose to think about it with the pre-concieved idea that science holds intelligence.
If you refuse to believe that their is a higher power, then my question to you is this- what is the source of order in this universe?
I'll be checkin in on this blog often.
