With news of a ps4.5 some cows are rejoicing.
Yet console gamers have always complained about pc gamers having to upgrade to "keep up". But now it seems that they have no issue with paying extra money for some more power every 2-3 years.
They kind of already end up doing that with new console generations every now and again, so the prospect of having a new device that runs the same OS, UI, store app, and all of the same games, without as much need for actual tech savvy, is still pretty appealing in its way. The main draw of console gaming has always been in having a device that you don't have to fiddle as much with. They're probably also factoring in the option to trade their entire old console in toward purchasing the upgraded one, while still being able to keep everything they had for the original console to use for the new. It's still easier for the lay person to wrap their head around than the process of buying a new piece of hardware, opening the thing up, realizing their motherboard can't fit the new GPU *and* their wireless adaptor because the god-dang GPU covers the PCIe slot below the one slot on the motherboard that will accept it, and then needing to also replace their internal wireless adapter with something that fits into one of the standard PCI slots.
...I'm not bitter! Not one bit bitter. Not bitter one bit. > = /
With a console all of the hardware is presumably selected so that it all works well together without needing the user to do any gymnastics. You know, unless it's the launch-model Xbox 360 or something. That was a fine buck of arse-juice at launch... sheesh.
