Console gamers

Console gamers are a constant presence in many PC boards. Some are reasonable people. Others are just annoying.

Console gamers I can respect:

Half-Life 2: Episode One - Will it come to 360?

I freely admit that the consoles are not now nor will they ever be as powerful as the pc.  I agree that games must be dumbed down in order to make the jump to consoles.  Hell, just look at Half Life.  The textures and everything are much more detailed on the pc.  But that isn't something that i care about.  Let's face it.  Valve isn't a whole hell of a lot like other game making companies.  I don't think that they would sell out on their main fanbase for quick profits by making a console version to be ported to the pc.  The Xbox version of Half Life is outshined by its pc counterpart, but even so, it is great game.  Now personally I prefer consoles because of their price and ease of use, where you don't have to install a game to play it.  However, I do respect the pc power over these consoles.  I think that Valve of all companies will continue to make games, and make them right, for the pc.  But I hope that after each one, and only after, will they consider the possibilities associated with consoles.  Even if I have to pay $60 for a dumbed down copy of a $20 game, I will do it for this one, but not many others. I agree that if they focus on making a joint-based game, it won't nearly achieve the greatness that is Half-Life, but I don't think they will do that.  They might, but I hope not.  shadow_soldier

Console gamers I dislike:

Resident Evil 4 - For PC? Really necessary?

I have the Gamecube version and I was amazing at the game, beat it so many times, and unlocked everything(including the handcannon). I love the game, but still...a PC version? Is that really necessary? Capcom always seems to squeeze all they can out of a good game...

Also, so what are the special features for the PC version? I don't see the point in multiplayer bc it would just be sniper matches and if they added the feature to move while shooting, then the game would be really easy and wouldn't be as scary. It was scary when you were fighting a boss when you kept running and didn't have time to stand still and take a shot...

It really doesn't matter if you can hook up a controller. most people won't bother with it, and the experience just won't be that great on the PC. There are so many better horror/action games on the PC. Capcom just wants to make more money, but it's a stupid idea to bring this to the PC. It will just feel too much of a cheap port. PC Games are just way different. Regardless...this game will be unsuccessful- no matter how many mods, easter eggs, multiplayer modes this version comes with- it's just not going to be successful when there are such better PC titles...

If this really satisfies the RE fans, then why would they port it to the PC anyway? Hardcore RE fans would own a PS2 already...

anyway, Halo PC was a good game, but it was a VERY cheap port. The netcode was horrible and used alot of code for the Xbox system-link. It was still a good game, but it felt like a cheap port the whole time. I just have a feeling RE4 will turn out the same. Sure you can mod it, but how much longevity will it add to the game? You could mod Halo PC but in reality nobody cared. There's just not much you could do with RE4 for modding. Maybe create a few missions but that's about it- and that's IF Capcom releases the SDK. I still think it's unnecessary to port this game to the console, bc now the PC has everything. This was one of the two games I would go to my Gamecube to play and now it's coming to the PC...

Star Trek: Legacy - What will be the likely PC requirements?

I'm sure it will be pretty high. Thats the beauty of the Xbox360 though, you dont need to worry you know it will be very crisp and very high graphics. I mean look at Halo3, that is stretching the limits their and it looks amazing even though it is not nearly finished. evilyoda861

Hopefully. Most likely.  Yet again if you have a 360 you wont have to worry about needing to upgrade your computer furthar sucking your money out. I have a computer that is garaunteed to run this game coming out, but I will wait and see how the pc version does. Most likely exellent but I want to see what kind of mods come out.  evilyoda861

Thats your choice but pc's are much more expensive and not really as reliable for big games. evilyoda861

Damn Summer Heat

My system's been acting up lately which I suspect is due to the weather. At first it would reboot itself while I was in the middle of a game. But after resetting everything back to stock speeds, I get a sort of pausing/stuttering while playing which leads me to suspect my GPU. After running rthdribl for a few minutes, I noticed my temps went up to 143C. That's what I get for putting a computer on the second floor. Let's just hope it doesn't happen while I'm playing DoD:S during next week's free weekend.

Crisis in the Crysis board

I knew this would happen. As soon as I saw that Crysis preview on GameSpot's front page, I knew there was going to be a flood of new posters in the forum, including the console crowd. Now the console vs. PC war is heating up with new posters adding fuel to the fire. This is only going to get worse as long as that preview link stays up there. With the GameSpot staff off work, it's going to be one long weekend.

Honestly, I wish these guys would just leave once they see that there's no info at GameSpot about a console version. Instead, they have to come into the forum and start stupid topics or make troll posts in existing ones about how consoles are better. I can't understand why people who have no intention of playing on their PC would come to a PC board in the first place. All these new people do is keep the war going on longer with their pointless posts.

These boards really need a moderator presence. Someone who can make a stickied FAQ and lock any topics about Xbox 360 or PS3. Too bad it's easier said than done.

P.S. Sorry for the lame topic title.

HL2 Armor Trick

I learned something interesting about Half-Life 2 while playing Episode One. You may have noticed that the contents of the breakable crates aren't always the same. What I mean is, if you save your game and break a crate, you might get a pack of pistol rounds. Load your save game and break the same crate again and you might get a pack of SMG bullets or a grenade. Well I noticed that if I'm badly wounded, the crates turn into health and armor crates. Once I heal myself up or stock up on armor though, the crates go back to being ammo crates.

So now I came up with a trick for getting full armor. What you should do is, save all the crates until you're hurt. Then go around and break them all without collecting any health or armor. If you do this, you'll be able to stock up on a lot of armor which isn't as easy to find as ammo or health. I'm certainly going to do this from now on.

US Game Sales for May 2006

GameSpot reported on sales figures for the month of May.

Xbox, GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Game Boy Advance - $188 million

Xbox 360, DS, and PSP - $98 million

PC - $63 million

Looks like the PC is still a competitive platform even though the $63 million only accounts for boxed retail sales and doesn't include purchased downloads.

Resident Evil 3 PC

I need to write this down so I'll remember it. To fix the problem of lines running horizontally and vertically across the backgrounds, hit F5 to bring up options and select the Others tab. Then uncheck Texture Correction. All this is in the readme file. Now if there's something like this in RE2, I'll be closer to getting it to run glitch free with 3d acceleration.
