I have some ps2 games which I still like to play. But when I insert the ps2 disc into the drive, the system says it cannot play it. Why is that so?

In singapore, a ps3 and a hdtv is equivalent to a macbook. $2000 bucks. Should I get ps3+samsung hdtv or Macbook?Considering I've never had a laptop in my life.
