If I were you I'd look into getting a x38 based motherboard as I've heard the 680i chipset can have problems with the penryn CPU's. Regarding the graphics card, I'd get the 8800GT or GTS instead of the GTX as the extra cost of the GTX isn't really reflected performance wise.

The most feared sound in almost any game ever. U hear that sound and a chill goes down ur spine as u hope for that second that the bullet is heading for ur head...

easily the AWP, almost always a one shot kill cept for grazes which still do 85 dmg...

Dam I used to hate that gun back in the days of CS (pre source), when hitting someones ankle would be an instant kill! Gets my vote though, mostly just because of that booming sound it makes which sounds so different from any other gun.

Hey thanks to all for the replys! Are the 3DMark shader scores independant of the CPU? I know the overall score includes the CPU but I thought for the shader scores only the GPU counted? Just ran 3DMark and here's the exact numbers for anyone who's interested.

Hi I've just bought a 8800gt (asus branded) and I'm getting very dissapointing 3DMark 06 results, and am hoping someone could give me some possible causes. I get a bit over 3000 for both shader 2.0 and 3.0 which im fairly certain is very low for this card. My CPU score is around 1600 which is about right. In total I get around 7500. My rig is as follows:

Athlon X2 3800 socket 939 (@2.4GHz)
1GB DDR3200
Asus 8800GT (@stock)
Foxconn NF4SK8AA (nforce 4 chipset)
Windows Vista Ultimate

Using nvidia forceware 169.02
When I run 3DMark 06 it reports that there is no systems similar to mine to do a comparison which seems strange as I hardly have very high end or niche components...
Worth noting is that I only have a generic 400W power supply, could this be the cause of the lack of performance? The system is very stable so im not sure it is. Could it be my rather out-dated motherboard and ram, although my CPU score is what I would expect.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Agreed. Up until about 3 months ago I was die hard hermit, until I just couldnt afford to keep up with the upgrade costs every 6 months. I got some cash for some work I did over summer and could afford to buy either, and having no particular bias towards the 360 or PS3 (never owned an xbox 1 or PS2) decided to base my decision solely on the quality of the games. A quick skim through the gamespot review database and its pretty obvious to even the most deluded cow that the 360 has higher scoring games, and more of them. So I bought as 360 and havnt regretted it, although I admit the hardware is a bit ropey, sounding like a jet engine when it heats up.

I might buy a PS3 in the future, but at the moment, based on the games that are available now, I really cant see a reason to own one, the lair review further proving that point.
