Online multiplayer is an inevitable expansion of the industry, and while I personally don't play much online, I understand its benefits. At the same time, I think I understand what the topic poster is saying...but I have a slightly different take.
Thing is, there isn't much to most online multiplayer experiences. The most popular tend to be fast-action or "twitch" games - like FPSs - that don't really require much thinking. Granted, the single-player experience of these same games isn't too different, but at least there's usually a story and sometimes a puzzle or two that keeps the gamer involved. The only downside to this whole new online revolution is pretty simple, I believe- developers might sacrifice effort on a single-player campaign in order to make the online play more robust, and that's a mindset that can certainly become detrimental in the future.
We were just starting to get better written stories, better voice acting, more innovative and original single-player gameplay experiences, etc. Now, while I don't think all this progress will disappear entirely, I do believe a continued emphasis on online gaming can stunt this growth a bit. All of the aforementioned elements don't normally appear in the typical online multiplayer mode, and there are obvious reasons for that (one of which is the startling lack of attention span in many online gamers I've encountered).
Overall, I really don't think it's "ruining our enjoyment" because "enjoyment" is a very subjective term. But on the other hand, if the balance gets too far out of whack - if devs actually begin to slack off on key single-player facets in favor of focusing on online gameplay - I do think that's a problem. It's not necessarily happening at this very moment, but this industry moves at such a ridiculously rapid pace, it could quite literally start to happen by the end of the year and we might not even notice. I have noticed a significant lack of RPGs this generation already, though, and feasibly, that would be one of the first genres to suffer from the increased popularity of online gaming.
Geez...aren't people supposed to know about games in here? Anyway, here's a good list of potentially excellent PS3/360 games for 2007 (and of course, this isn't counting any future delays that might happen):
Assassin's Creed (PS3, Xbox 360)
Mass Effect (Xbox 360)
Heavenly Sword (PS3)
Halo 3 (Xbox 360)
Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (PS3)
Haze (exclusive to PS3 this year, should appear on 360 next year)
Lair (PS3)
Bioshock (Xbox 360)
Guitar Hero III (PS3, Xbox 360)
Rock Band (PS3, Xbox 360)
Warhawk (PS3)
Half-Life 2: Orange (PS3, Xbox 360)
Stranglehold (PS3, Xbox 360)
Unreal Tournament 3 (same situation as Haze)
Obviously, we have to wait for two of the best multiplatform games coming in 2008 (GTA IV and DMC 4), but this should be more than enough to tide ya over. The only other ones I can think of are Uncharted: Drake's Fortune (PS3, Xbox 360) and InFamous (PS3 only), but I'm not sure if they'll make it this year...
I like that. :)
I always thought it was just a matter of logic and reason. The setting is Africa...soooo, wouldn't there be a lot of African-American/Black people? Sure, you could make the argument that the hero ISN'T black, but he's also not a native of the region. As usual, the liberals are reading too much into this, and I seriously doubt Capcom or RE 5 is racist in any way. And besides, the heroes in all the previous REs spent hour after hour mowing down a zillion white victims...I don't recall seeing a black zombie in any RE...does anyone else?
Final Fantasy Tactics
Final Fantasy VII
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
Earl Weaver's Baseball
Any Heroes of Might and Magic through III
Tough to say. I think one series that never gets enough love for storyline is Suikoden. It may have plots that are on par with Final Fantasy, and in some cases, even better. But I'll go with the following-
Final Fantasy Tactics, VII, VIII, X, XII
Suikoden I, II, III, V
Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete
Vandal Hearts II
Vagrant Story
Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
Indigo Prophecy
And most recently, I liked the story in The Darkness a lot (even though it certainly doesn't make my "top" list).
Nooo! You win this time, oh but I will be back with a vengance. :P
EDIT: I am just going to paste what I wrote in the other thread:
Out of nowhere Castlevania SOTN hit the PSN today, for whatever reason it costs $10 rather than the normal $6 for PS1 games. I have an original copy of the game so I dont need it but if for whatever reason you never played it do so. Also this version will allow you to play it on your PSP, so its SOTN handheld as well.
Also updated are GT5 videos, Ratchet trailer, Infamous Trailer, Heavnly Sword making off video.
If you have a EU account you get a Darkness demo.

It could cost $40 and still be worth every effing penny. ;)
