Honestly could not disagree with this review more. The show is a masterpiece. Everyone is entitled to their opinion I guess. But, as a consumer, I am not going to put any stock into Gamespot reviews.

For me, boss fights in the open world is the least likely thing to get me interested in trying ER, and something I am not eager to see appear in other open world games. I have gone through 2 From Software games, and had a love hate feeling towards soulsborne games for the most part and the bosses are the worst part to me. I am glad that folks are enjoying the game, but to me I need more to go on then just "there are field bosses" for myself to suffer through another soulsborne.

@Barighm: I’m sure others have said this, but everyone’s experiences are different. I’m no pro by any means, but I’m no slouch either, so with that said Dark souls was insanely difficult for me honestly. I still just think overall there will just be a niche of people who like that and cool, whatever, but I would certainly consider these games brutally hard for most people.

@mogan: So that’s a fair point, but I just figured the whole point of having reviews is for that very purpose. It’s just as well, I suppose.

A other major issue is the journalists themselves, in which they are still failing to really inform people about what they are getting. You get some reviewer who is a devout zealot of From Software who will say things like “this game is difficult, but surmountable and fair!” But the problem is they are not really educating people on what they can expect. These games are EXTREMELY difficult and make take a player of average skill hours and hours of repetition, dying over and over again, and seeing the same locations constantly before progressing. And hey if that’s your cup of tea, great. But reviewers are not providing consumers with an accurate summary of these games, which means players can’t really make informed decisions about their purchase. In lieu of this article, I do absolutely believe demos should be available.

@stickemup: There are a lot of gamers who are good at their games who slam them. Like me, for example. So do I win the bet?

This is one of those games that I just don't understand how it rates so high. I mean if people enjoy it, I am glad, more power to you. But just getting my characters to walk across a small hill felt exhausting, let alone just trying to figure out how to advance...anything. There was so much micromanaging and the combat just left me wishing for anything remotely real time. I bought for Ps4 thinking my wife and I would enjoy going through it together but ended up hating it after a number of hours. But to each their own.

Wait a soulsborne game that didn’t immediately get a 9 out of 10 score?! Are you feeling okay, Gamespot? I figured all these kind of games had the review criteria of “it hard- therefore it get good game score.” Maybe someone else is finally getting tired of the same combat pace thrown into a different game.

I liked the cut scenes and character options, but honestly was very unimpressed by the time game play was revealed. I am just not blown away by the game yet; but it is still early. For fans of turn based combat though I think they will find plenty to love - I just don't think the "wow" factor will be enough to convert nonbelievers.

It looks like a solid rpg, but I’m just not blown away by any of it. The combat looks like the polar opposite of enjoyable. In fairness for fans of divinity I think it will be great for them.
