Great read, but I have to disagree with the reapers. In ME1, I thought bioware did a great job of developing the story and atmosphere around the reapers, however ME2 could have added more depth to the reapers motives

Great article! I am certain that video games has the potential to tell great stories, but at the moment it has not reached the level of books or movies. I think an important distinction that was pointed out is that games are interactive while books and movies are already set. Books and movies can string in narrative in a effective way, while in games the story is broken apart. There is a bit of story followed by game play then story. Its choppy and ultimately leaves things unbalanced. There will always be memorable parts in a video game. As Parker wrote video games contains the basic elements of story telling. But when it comes down to it I find it easier for to recall what I was doing in a game rather then tell the story as extensively as I could when reading a book and watching a film.

I also liked the dark feel that the first Gears of War was able to provoke in the players, but I don't think that the lighter, less eerie mood in Gears of War 2 is a bad thing. After beating the first Gears of War, I felt as if the game successfully showed how Marcus and his comrades could possibly save Serra. After the first game there was that sense of hope. In Gears of War 2 that grand scale of the levels, and the lighter, green environment shows that sense of life and hope which is needed to push a soldier in any war to strive and live. I think that the dark, end of the world feel could get old if the developers kept to that concept in Gears of War 2.
