@uninspiredcup: Yes, you are right on this. Games like Bayonetta scare people because why? They contain sexuality. Of any kind.

Essentially they started hiring San Francisco students who were not particularly over enamoured with games in the first place to do reviews. A stark contrast to the old days when reviewers would essentially be us (thanks to youtube, they still are). So they started being disingenuous in their reviews, pretentious, pushing their political beliefs over things like gameplay and graphics. On message? good review. Off message? Bad review.

It's like handing over a driving sim review to an eco warrior who proceeds to complain about emissions and damage to the environment. There's a time and a place for that, and it's not a game review. Tell me about the mechanics of the game. Tell me whether I'm likely to enjoy it.

The worst was when one of these websites, might have been polygon, sent a pretentious hipster to a Rock Band showing, and he spent the whole preview bitching about not liking rock music and how he sat on his own at the back thinking about more enlightened things. Many gamers would have killed to be in that room, but our gaming press sends people who don't actually enjoy games instead. It's no wonder there is resentment.

For Gone Home to get game of the year here says it all. I am very glad they are back to giving actual games the plaudits (believe its Zelda this year?) and got rid of some of the more SJW elements. And yes we have to call them out whenever we see it. It's tedious but we have to push back.
