Media Center has nothing to do with Xbox Live ... so a Silver membership is fine, or no membership is fine if you play offline only.

The Xbox 360 IS a Media Center extender. Media Center is sold on versions of Windos XP and Windows Vista. Media Center, in a nutshell works with TV tuner cards and allows you to watch television on your PC, and use your PC as a digital video recorder for television. It also plays all of your video and music files same as windows Media Player.

The kicker, is if you have a media center extender (your 360) you can use your extender to access all of your TV, video, music etc. that is on your PC and watch it remotely in whatever room you have the extender.

To get started, you need a PC that has Media Center. Then linking it up to your 360 is a snap. I've got 2 XB 360's, both of which can access my media center PC. I don't use it much, but it is pretty cool to be able to watch "On the Spot" episodes on my television in my bedroom as opposed to sitting in front of my PC.

Can anyone help about the initial question? OK, for example, do I need a harddrive, and if so what for? (Again, I've always had Nintendo products, so I don't know these things.)TheMonthlyDaily
