[QUOTE="frannkzappa"]----giant post----Inconsistancy

Yes, I'm aware of the Yakuza's existence

Biker Gangs:
Bszoku: Street racing gang, okay?
Jakarta-post article: That's in JAKARTA, not JAPAN.
Back to the Bosozoku, nothing in the way of statistics on the crimes themselves

Health: How is this relevant to the discussion, I'm not even going to look at these

Legal:
Abuse of power, falsifying evidence (1 example), weaker judicial system, far fewer lawyers
Abuse of power result high prosecution rate
Legal system is inquisitorial crap, results in acquittals
I'm not reading a novel

Racism:
(redundant)The wikipedia covers this better.
Some random novel on racism
"Article 14 of the Constitution of Japan states that all people (English version) or citizens (revised Japanese version) are equal under the law, and they cannot be discriminated against politically, economically, or socially on the basis of race, belief, sex, or social or other background.

However, Japan does not have civil rights legislation which enforces or penalizes discriminatory activities committed by citizens, businesses, or non-governmental organizations."

----

None of this really confirms that it's a much more violent place than we're led to believe, just shows they're xenophobic racists with a crappy legal system that abuses power and has few lawyers.

Can't you attepmt to provide statistics? And you don't seem like you can be bothered to pull important excerpts from the damn novels that you link.

that seems to be what i was saying in the first place.

on japan being a violent place, it is more then you would think, my point was that the terrible self serving legal system greatly reduces the trust worthiness of any statistics related to crime in that country.

besides that the entire point of my OP was to provide an example, a personal one in fact, of why not all gun purchases are petty.

[QUOTE="thebest31406"]Yeah, killing millions of people and leaving health defects that would last for generations would certainly the right move

If it wasn't for the bomb, half of japan would have been occupied by the USSR.

Im sure that would have been fun.

[QUOTE="Inconsistancy"]Zappa, I'm terribly sorry, even if you are "right" you have no evidence and are just making claims.Inconsistancy

the first half i dont care if you believe or not.

it was mostly just to provide a reason to own a gun.

the second half can be verified with a bit of research.

Then do it. (verify)

QUESTION

i was mugged and stabbed in japan two years ago, now ive got scarrs all over my arms and sides.

Now it occured to me that having a gun would have saved me quite a bit of blood, pain and money so i bought one.

THAT is why i own a gun, and ill be damned if i ever get mugged and stabbed like that before with out some way to defend my self that doesn't involve trying to fight the guy with the knife(cause that worked so well the first time "sarcasm").

Am i part of the problem OP??????

ALSO

japan isnt as nice a place as many think it is

japan has a huge problem with reporting crime so the statistic is much higher. there are also many areas in japan were crimes go on with no involvement of the police or government.

the yakuza is scary as all hell. they have an EXTREMELY apathetic government that couldn't care less about health regulations. they have a biased legal system which targets immigrants. they dont keep violent criminals locked very long and the entire country is being slowly destabilized by their already unstable government.

i have been to japan, Tokyo and the country side is fine any other big city just doesn't seem to give a fuk whether you get murdered or not.

ps i was mugged there twice in okinowa. both by what i assume were yakuza or some other gang.

pps dont get me started on the roaming biker gangs that go around breaking things and beating people up.

[QUOTE="Omni-Slash"]Great..we continue to litter on other planets...Omni-Slash

What a cheery disposition.

may not be cheery but it's accurate...at the end of the day it's just more sh*t in space....before we continue to launch crap everywhere in the galaxy...find a way to get it back...

we already have a way... its called millions and millions of extra dollars for the return trip.
