Ok so the idea was simple. I needed to build a pc for roughly 800$ canadian. This is what i came up with: Motherboard: MSI 870A-G55 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130558 CPU:AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 2.8GHz http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103851 GPU: SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 6850 1GB http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102908 Ram: CORSAIR XMS3 4GB http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145260 PSU: SeaSonic S12II 620 Bronze 620W http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151096 HD: SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152181 Case: Rosewill CHALLENGER Black Gaming ATX Mid http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147153 I also have an optical drive but i figure its not worth listing as they are all pretty much the same anyways. So what do you guys think? Any changes you'd recommend? This is the first time i picked out parts by myself, but i have built other pcs. Thanks for the help!

Because you have to buy a new motherboard and maybe a case if you want to. Nick3306
well i would not need a new case, i recently moved my PC in to a Coolermaster HAF 922. That should pretty much fit any new mobo.

it's usually a bad idea to tinker with a name brand system, you have locks, and then unlockign them (usually not possible) and result in issues.

So what would you recommend? Purchasing a new motherboard?

No, there is not a good enough reason to overclock your i7. Dont waste money on a new mobo when you cpu can still play every game available. Plus ur case might not support atx i know my old dell didnt so you might need a new case. Bottom line, keep ur stuff the same as it is now.

I want to do that but i have been told several times that not overclocking an i7 is a total waste of its potential power. Yes i can run all games but why not grab some extra frames in the ones that dont run as well as most? (Crysis, Metro 2033, etc.)

Hm ok. The Motherboard comes up as a "Gateway TBGM01" in CPU-Z. However through further inspection it is visible that the motherboard is made by Foxconn.

Hey guys. I have a Gatway FX pc with an intel core i7 processor running at 2.66. Is it possible to overclock it on this pc? I have heard that there are ways to do it even on pre-built pcs from companies like dell, gateway, and hp. How would i have to do it?
