I just don't understand. How can so many rational people who live in an industrialized society believe in things that completely contradict daily observations, contemporary morality, and the most basic metaphysical principles.

Are so many people so sad and deluted that they simply can't face the only truth religion provides us? For those of you who do not know what that truth resembles, it's actually quite easy to understand.

It is currently impossible to deduce or obsererve any supernatural event. Even if such events occur, no one can trace a sufficent line between the event itself and its cause. God may not exist. God may exist. No one knows. And it's impossible, at least right now, to know. Any claim in favor or against the existence of God is invalid, supersitious, and devoid of sufficent evidence. The atheist must explain metaphysical causality. The theist must prove the existence of God.

Religious dogma is the most dangerous and terrible relic of the past. Religion restricts the growth of morality and the progression of the human race, surplanting notions of charity and good will for notions of exclusion, dogma, and hate.

Have any contemporary Christians ever ventured to read over the entire Bible? How do you feel worshipping a God that is petty, favors groups of people along paticular ethinic lines, has committed nothing short of universal genocide twice, threatens eternal punishment for finite sins, slaughters children, and promotes hate, biggotry, cruelty, and malice?

You might claim that the aforementioned list is not correct and construct an arguement that does little more than point out clauses of "universal love" that directly contradict previous notions within the text. In such a case, I thank you for pointing out the silly and self-contradictory tone of the Bible.

I still don't understand why anyone but the most hardcore Bibilical literalist could appreciate the Bible and Christian principles -- faith alone, or ignorance and supersition as it should be called, provides the only warrant for your believes. The Bible falls apart when critiqued with any amount of reason.

I suppose Christians these days do not realize they are worshipping the spiritual successor of Bhaal or any other terrible Sumernian diety. But much of their theological reproach stems out of fear and peer pressure. Do you really think an all-powerful being would be so petty, childish, and terrible that he would smite a person for making a mistake or simply requiring evidence for their beliefs? If so, you can keep your false and terrible God of Murder. Even if he does exist, he is no God.

God cannot be omnipotent, all just, and all knowing at the same time. You must omit at least one of those beliefs for God to function within the modern world. While I admit there very well COULD be a God, that God would not resemble the man-made idea of Jehova or Jesus (as anything more than a man). Both of these entities are little more than the fictious dreams of men who would exploit human ignorance for their own gain.

Christians should belive all parts of the Bible. The book of Luke states this quite clearly. But what are we to do, when parts of the Bible contradict the conception of God, contemporary morality, and history? A reasonable person would view the entire text in a whole new light -- it is a simple text, that is not even slightly divine, that has exploited, misguided, and tyrannized people for thousands of years. I wish we could use these terrible texts to warm our hearths in winter, heating our homes is one of its few remaining functions.

Even if you still wish to cling to faith, I still do not understand how or why religion is just about the only subject in which it is perfectly "ok" to dismiss observation and basic reason. Suppose I were to say to you, "last week, I saw 20 flying pigs land downtown and pass out snowcones." If appeared even slightly serious in my conviction, you would deem me to be insane. Consider, just how much evidence do we have for flying pigs who hand out snow cones?

Probably more evidence than the evidence that might prove the divinity of Christ or the existence of Yahweh.

I am agnostic. I am sick of supersitious tyrants attempting to legislate funamentally flawed morality into my daily life. I am tired of the government being able to manipulate people with Bibilical rrhetoric that half the public can understand. I am tired of watching Churches recieve special benefits from the Government.

Most of all, I'm tired of seeing so many of my fellow countrymen blinded and corrupted by ficiticous ideas that no longer possess utility.
