Im really glad in a way becuase their PS VITA selling tactics sucked arse with their propriety memory cards! I am a fan of Sony but could not justify and support the PS VITA for this. I hope they have learnt they cant take the piss out of their customer base. Nintendo don't do this.

@edjos Yeah I agree; ESRB is where the solution lies and the correct control mechanism.

Great article Tom and well written / argued I did enjoy reading it. However, I do think, as many others posting here, that it’s all simply a huge hypocrisy. To expand, you seem to be suggesting there is a clear proverbial line which, if crossed, condemns a game developer for not using violence appropriately both in its quantity or as you put it, in furthering its narrative. But all games are subjective creations and have different effects on different people. If games are considered as artistic creations then developers cannot be hindered in this way. In a nutshell this is all a knee jerk reaction by politicians to appease the public and victims outcry over recent incidents (of which I too am sincerely saddened to hear about). When I hear about time crisis arcade machines being removed from every rest stop in Massachusetts, you cannot tell me that it is a proportional response. It’s a political one!

@CraigNinten Good point, which I agree, deflates the whole purpose of a ban.

Its not the violence present in games as such but rather the way children get hooked on games thats the issue which is why they banned it in 2000. Addiction is a bigger issue and affects more people than the shootings saga goin on in the US which is presumably confined to a handful of nutcases!
