[QUOTE="gdw0908"]

The publisher has the freedom and right to do whatever the F they want. It doesn't make it right or correct, and yes - if I were a huge fan of this developer I would be flat out ticked too (like most Last Guardian fans). But, you can boycott and counter them all you want. We all have freedoms and liberties granted as consumers and despite them "robbing us of new content" or them choosing to "allocate resources to other projects" is why their mgmt makes the big bucks.

Grammaton-Cleric

This is where you lose me: the sense of entitlement.

The truth is the people pissed about this HD collection are the minority and I have yet to meet a true fan of Team Ico that isn't looking to pick this up on day one. But even if "most" hardcore fans were actually upset by this, I still have yet to fully understand the rationale that propels such asperity.

Firstly, the games are old; SOTC is four years old and Ico is nearly ten. Why anyone would feel slighted by the re-release of software this old makes little sense anymore than I should be offended that I have to re-purchase films on Blue ray. Do people expect that they should be given a free upgrade on every subsequent format merely because they purchased something initially years ago? Or perhaps these are the types of justifications used by those who pirate media?

Secondly, assuming Team Ico is pulling resources away from The Last Guardian to work on this transfer, so what? Again, people think that because they are fans or have spent money on prior offerings that this entitles them to something more than a passive role in the creative and business decision making process. Even coming onto a public board and calling out the developers as lazy or redundant strikes me as over the line and while I agree people have the right to say whatever they want, that doesn't make such comments and attitude any less vapid.

Ultimately, you could hand out free hundred dollar bills and somebody would complain but that doesn't make their criticisms worth much. I appreciate you taking the time to look at the issue evenly but in all sincerity I don't think the detractors have made a very logical stance as to why this shouldn't happen, at least not beyond incredibly myopic parameters.

I guess my point is that given a choice of a sequel of ICO/SotC or any other game versus a re-release, I would almost (with exception of MAYBE FFVII) choose the sequel. Your point of BluRay vs. SD DVD is a good one... and one I refuse to take part in (Sans FFVII: Advent Children which I did purchase in both formats). I guess it is all in the eyes of the beholder. I just know I would rather have more original content than a more refined version of what was originally considered to be some of the finest work of the previous gen.

The sense of entitlement as you put it is not truly a sense of entitlement, but rather the freedoms allotted by consumer choice and capitalism. Supply meets demand, and I make choices as to how my expendable income is spent on goods and services. The point is exactly what you rehashed in my argument; gaming companies and their management will allot their available resources in a manner that they see fit (perhaps taking away TLG to work on this HD Collection). We as consumers are probably not going to be able to move this timeline in their process. Case in point: Blizzard. I have moaned and cried about every SCII and Diablo II and WCIII release, but in the end I bought them all on day 1 and loved them all at the same time. I'm assuming those who are die-hards for Team ICO feel the same way about "The Last Guardian" and it all works out in the end (assuming a quality product they are envisioning).

I'm just looking at it from both sides... those that like the move and those who don't. I personally like this move, since I have neither in SD and the HD gives me an opportunity to experience these in HD and (hopefully) with trophy support. I don't feel I was "cheated" or "entitled" to a free upgrade of old software with the GoW Collection, because asking for anything for free is foolish in a recession-stricken economy. However, if they would have made the information more readily available I would have made different choices. They released that information a bit late in my opinion, but heck... I can't really impact that now can I?

This is why I brought up my comment about my impulse buy on God of War/GoW2. Yeah, I did feel a little cheated since I bought the older versions a week before they announced the collection. However, you live with choices and you move on. Some people WANT both SD and HD versions - good for them too. They obviously see value in both sets of discs.

I'll give this collection a chance, as I have been meaning to play SotC and never did for the PS2; ICO looks a little dull to me, but if it is free along with an HD version of SotC I'd give it a go. Prob not a day 1 kind of purchase but that is moot in this discussion.

I'm not saying people should boycott this, but if they feel that strongly about it... then by all means have at it. It is just my outlook that everyone has their right to their own opinion (rational/irrational), and I can see it from both sides since I have been there before. You just need to realize as a consumer you have SOME power - but this is no civil rights movement or anything.

Let's all remember to attack the argument and not the person making it. I remember when this thread was about a bit of good news... and then it turned to ****.rragnaar

I think the "HD Collections" are a double edged sword personally...

First, you allow those who do not have a BC PS3 the ability to experience two cult-classic games (that of a love/hate relationship). While this is much more economically rational than the typical -> buy ps2 -> buy games at overly inflated rates -> hate/love yourself for bad/good consumption decisions

Second, you can create resentment towards those that bought the games in their original form just before the release (as I did with the GoW Collection). Now, do I have that right or did I just make some impulse decisions so I could play GoW3? Well, that is up for debate... but I definitely see both sides of the argument.

Now, as to the recapitalization of the IP - that is a slippery slope. Think of it not as submitting the same work twice, but the same work with better materials. Think of it as hardback vs. paperback (however, the hardback is usually released first... so counter this example with whatever you want -> HD remastered movies or music is a close second) or any other re-release of a classic. Take for example the Shelby Cobra kit cars... much more reliable than the original, same output and power - but extremely less expensive than the rare and collectible originals.

As for whoever said the company could just hire hundreds of thousands of employees to work on the never-ending project backlog... come on, man. First, this assumes there is an infinite number of feasible and profitable projects (rarely true). Secondly, if you have ever studied a gaming studio they usually run very lean - only hiring enough people they can keep busy year-round. You have to take basic economics into consideration here... and most large studios (Blizzard and EA are prime examples) work like the Pacific Rim and Mexican sweat shops for developers and game creators.

I like it... and it is the truth after playing the demo. I have already pre-ordered it and thought the commercial to be very cutting edge/avant garde stuff. Just my opinion though ;)

Double KO??? Chuck Norris can never be KO'ed... not even by himself!!!! Therefore, I vote that all votes be redistributed based on my vote... meaning Chuck Norris wins eventually by default (not by KO). In fact, there would never be a winner... just a truce to not destroy the entire universe by fighting each other. They would divy up the universe to traverse on their trusty steed, just like Walker - Texas Ranger did every Friday night... man, those were the days.

I'm pretty sure the fight would create a mass of invisible matter, causing the entire universe to implode into the infinite black hole. However, the two Chuck Norris' would survive and then recreate the universe in 3.5 days (half the time it took god and millions of years earlier than it took evolution). They would then vow never to fight again, as it would create more intergalactic destruction than the entire (# of Star Wars movies)*[(# of different Star Trek TV Episodes/# of Star Trek TV Series)*Star Trek's number of movies]. Run the numbers... the math is good, but not as good as Chuck Norris.

I'd like to recommend Raikoh_'s Army of Two: 40th Day review for a top emblem. It can be found here, and was used by Game Observer as the official website review of the game. While her $tyl3 is more casual than technical - it is a great voice of the game and opinions.

I'd also like to submit my Resident Evil 4 review for a top emblem found here.

Thanks again for the consideration of our unions members and reviews :)

I can usually only get online after work, dinner, and my gym routine... which is roughly 8-830pm EST. But, I also hit the sack around 11PM EST... not a huge window

I'd like to recommend my Demon's Soulsreview. It has gotten a lot of good feedback in the reviewers union I head (a lot of them are top 500 or 100 reviewers). It can be viewed here:
