i find it hard to believe that the ps3 will ever catch the 360, at least in NA. every month, the 360 outsells it. im not good with math, but dont you have to sell more to be ahead?
santoron
The 360 hasn't outsold the PS3 every month in NA. :| Check the monthly figures over the past year. You'll see each side taking certain months.
Not to say that the PS3 will outsell the 360 in NA, and certainly not anytime soon. But the OP's article is talking about WW sales. Sales outside of the U.S. count too, you know. :P
First of all, these are shipped numbers. The PS3 has sold approximately 36.1 million units, and the 360's lead is actually by about 5 million units. In the NPD, the PS3 has not outsold the 360 once yet this year. Worldwide, the 360 has been outselling the PS3 in virtually every country except for Japan since the new S model's release. Here are the weekly sales since then from VGChartz:

Week of June 19
Wii: 174,000
360: 159,000
PS3: 130,000

Week of June 26

Wii: 155,000
PS3: 131,000

Week of July 10
Wii: 161,000
360: 152,000
PS3: 130,000

Week of July 17 (new model released in Europe this week)
360: 308,000
Wii: 154,000
PS3: 129,000

So far only the Europe numbers are in for July 24, but the 360 has already outsold the PS3 by 70,000 units there alone. As you can see the gap is growing rather quickly now. It should be 7 million units by the end of the year. The PS3 will need more than GT5 this holiday. A price drop at least to match the 360. Plus, Microsoft is releasing the Arcade Slim model, which will skyrocket sales even more when it launches. I honestly can't see the PS3 outselling the 360 another week this year, not even the week of GT5's release, because Kinect launches that same week and it is sure to sell tons of 360s with the Kinect system bundle.
