lol Xasty your an idiot, 7870 creams 5970. ie Batman Arkham City prime example at 1080p ultra FXAA 7870 gets 71 fps while 5970 gets 41 fps.

Hell 7870 beats a 6970

The xtasy guy is right a HD 5970 would beat a HD 7870 granted if the game fully supports the HD 5970. HD 5970 is 2X Cypress dice mounted on a single, dual-slot video card. Anyone who knows about dual-gpu configurations would know that they are highly dependent on crossfire and SLI support. As such, some games will not take full advantage of the HD 5970 like Arkham City you pointed out. But as he pointed out the HD 5970 when taken full advantage would beat a HD 7870. Just look at the graph he posted on average it's beating HD 7950. The HD 7870 is slower than the HD 7950.

Oh by the way, your graph doesn't include the HD 5970. His does and it clearly shows that the HD 5970 is beating the HD 7950.

Nice!

I personally like the Fury X, I just think it's overpriced like the 980 Ti, at least when it launched. When they dropped the price to $570, then it was a good buy. Too bad all the PowerColor ones got sold out.

@klunt_bumskrint: Are you by any chance defy the divine statement of AMD CTO Joe Macri, who said: “This is an overclocker’s dream.”?

Shame on you! :P

Yeah this was definitely misleading. Too be fair nVidia did have their fair share of "gaffes". Anyone remember the wooden screws on the Fermi chips that nVidia was showing off as an actual board when it wasn't and Fermi was behind schedule? Or the recent showing of two Pascal GPUs on the PX 2 when it was clearly a pair of 980M's fabbed nearly a year ago!

@04dcarraher: why are you complaining about 4GB HBM of Fury at the same time suggesting the GTX 970 which has 4GB too.

Fury is a waste of money , spending $500+ on a gpu's that isnt even 30% faster than a $300 stock GTX 970 at 1080p.

What is of "value" depends on the user. Some people may still buy it as it still faster than the GTX 980. Some people even upgraded to the GTX 970 after the 3.5GB issue because the GTX 980 had a "full" 4GB. I don't think spending $720 on Hybrid 980 Ti is of value. Some people still buy it. But that wasn't the question. You were mentioning that 4GB Frame Buffer of the R9 Fury as not one of the criteria not to buy the Fury whereas by that analogy the 970 would also not be on the list as that also has a 4GB Frame Buffer.

Go with the Fury. You can get something like the newley released Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury which has 4GB of ultra fast HBM. Plus you get a copy of Battlefront for free.

Polaris is supposed to come around Back to school timeframe, if you can wait that long. Pascal maybe even longer as they didn't show a running Pascal at CES unlike Polaris which was demoed.
