Not sure what to make of this.  Anyone with looked closely enough saw that Black wasn't going to be a great game, the developers described it as "gun porn" for goodness sake.

Anyways, Crytek established themselves very well with Far Cry, whose "wolf among sheep and shepards" approach to gameplay impressed a lot of gamers.  Plus, the graphics are represent a much bigger leap then Black could ever hope to achieve on dated hardware.

Game 2 hooah to that brotha... What some ignorent people dont get is: console gaming is only possible with pc's. Therefore PC will always have the better hardware...The real question is are gamming companies now turning their heads towards the consoles? maybe...GRAW for PC was half-assed compared to the Xbox360 in my opinion....anyways i have already used my 2 cents...

GRAW is hardly the first game to give the PC version the short end of the stick, and PC gaming is still going strong.  Indeed, there are trends that suggest that consoler developers are trying to get in on PC gaming.  One example of this is Capcom releasing Resident Evil 4 and some of their other games on the PC.

Fantastic list!!! Im VERY excited about alot of those, and didnt know about alot of them. I really cant thank you enough for putting that list together.

May i suggest the addition of another game? Im pretty sure its not on the list and its one im really looking forward to. Its called "Supreme Commander" and its the spiritual sequal to Total Annhiliation (arguably one of the best RTS's ever :))

Supreme Commander is officially slated for a 2007 release.  And since I've never, ever heard of a game moving up in its release date, thats the earliest we'll see the finished product.  However, Adrian Werner has a seperate list for 2007 that includes Supreme Commander.

At first it seemed like 2006 would be a great year for vrai-RPGs, but now it seems like a lot of them are getting delayed and pushed back, Bioshock and Witcher being some examples.  Has Dragon Age officially been delayed until 2007 then?  I don't remember seeing any official announcements, though with Bioware thats always a possibility.

the list is missing supreme commander.123I321

That was delayed until 2007.

By the way, does this list have Space Rangers II?  Gamespy already gave it a 4.5/5 and I think its official stateside release is 2006.

[QUOTE="AdrianWerner"][QUOTE="TheMouth"] Consoles offer more variety, but if MMORPG's, FPS, or RTS's are your thing then you should be playing on a PC.TheMouth

It's a big myth. PCs offer as much variety as consoles if not more. But the variety comes from niche games. And since they are niche everyone sees just RTSes, FPSes and MMOs

Sure they do, any good fighters, platformers, kart racers, turn based rpg's coming out on the pc anytime soon?

Look, 2 can play that game.  Any good Real time strategy, turnbased strategy, MMOs, action RPGs, wRPGs, adventure games, simulation (including business, sport, driving, and flying) coming out for your console anytime soon?

As for platform games, yeah we got those: http://www.newgrounds.com/game/actiongames.html , not mention a pretty good port of Psychonauts.

Kart Racers?  Please, there is only one kart series worth having on consoles, and its worth isn't inherited in the fact its a kart racers, its the fact its a well made, fun game.  I'm talking Mario Kart, of course.

As for Turn based RPGs, there are quite a few indie shops still making them, notably Jeff Vogel and Spiderweb games (I think thats his company).

OK, fighters you might have a point about, but if you want a competitve mano el mano experience on a PC, chances are you play RTS or FPS online, so there really isn't much point in porting fighters.

EDIT:  Looks like I was on the same page as Adrien

The official campaign that came with Neverwinter Nights.  How could a "veteran" RPG developer forget about everything that has made the genre more interesting and fun is beyond me.  Check out the review in my profile if you want specifics as why its so terrible.

Dang, I just want to put down the entire cast from Bloodlines.  That game had the best use of overall character then any game I've ever played... with the possible exception of Planescape: Torment.  Most games only have 1 or 2 interesting personalities, whom the introduce with in the first hour of play.  With Bloodlines, it was a constant introduction of new and interesting personalities to flesh out (no pun intended) the undead world.  I'm just going to list some.

Jack, already mentioned

Therese and Jeanette Vorman, twin sisters in charge of Santa Monica with a surprising secret

Gary, not the guy who made the mod, but the kingpin of the underground Nosferatu.  Speaks with a snarl that will send a shiver down your spine.  Gets special kudos for "Forget it, its Chinatown!".

Sebastian LaCroix, former officer in Napolean's army and leader of the Camarilla in LA, the fact that so many people love to hate him is a sign that his character was very well done and developed.

Beckett, like sarcastic scholars with a dry a sense of humor?  Then you'll love Beckette.

Ms. Velour (V.V.), once you get past the underwear and pole dancing, there really is an interesting person underneath.  If only her poetry wasn't so terribly awful.

Mercurio, while we never do find out what an east coast gangster is doing in LA working for the undead, his dialogue is perfect for his character.  Lots of swearing and exclamatory expressions.  Knows his stuff (namely guns).

Mitnik, a hacker geek with a perfect command of 1337 speak turned hideous Nosferatu?  Well, its not like he was a hit with the ladies before.

Heather, sweet, charming, innocent, and your blood bound slave.  Not a bad detail to include, eh?

I could go on... Nines, Bach, the Mandarin, Ming Xiao, the Tremere Regent, and more.  If you want games with character, you want Bloodlines.  If you haven't played it, don't bother posting in a characters list, seriously.

Notice a console game with much inferior hardware was competeng with PC games who most likely took advantage of the best hardware.

As far as nominees since this is Console vs PC you have to take the total of all console nominations which 5 vs PC's 4. Now if you look even further look how diveresed all the nominations for consoles are while PC is will forever be known for FPS, MMORPG and RTS. PC gaming is confined and restricted.

puertorock_papi

You've got to be kidding me.  First off, hardware doesn't make the game.  Notice the presence of a DS title on the roster.  Next, a lot more games with the budgets that tend to get GotY nominations are released on consoles.  Maybe if you include all the children's software and Walmart sale dependent budget ware then PCs have more games, but if you look at just the hardcore games for gamers, just one console is going to get a heck of a lot more games then the PC.

Next, you have to combine all three major consoles to get a number of Finalists bigger then the PC number.  When it takes 3 platforms to be out one, you're sunk.  Especially when you consider most gamers only have one console.  I don't hear anyone saying Playstation got beat 8 to 2.

Variety?  The consoles had 3 action/adventure titles for goodness sake, and Guitar Hero.  The PC lineup includes 1 strategy game, 1 online RPG, 1 single player shooter, and 1 online shooter.  The fact that PCs are the only platform with a tradition of adventure games, wRPGs, strategy, simluation, etc.  Only FPS, MMO, RTS?  You do know that the Sims has outsold both Halos combined?  Or that Myst is the second best selling PC franchise?  A couple years ago, MMOs didn't even exist.  Go back a little further, FPSers didn't exist (OK, a lot further).  The PC is an evolving platform in terms of software, and its where many genres get their start.  Look no further then 2006's lineup of Neverwinter 2, Oblivion, Dragon Age, Gothic 3, the Witcher, STALKER, and a shot at Bioshock to think that 2006 could be the year of the RPG for the PC.  And I mean real RPG, none of that linear, no choice, look at they purty CGI jRPG.

EDIT:  Look at 2004's numbers to really see another comparison

http://www.gamespot.com/gamespot/features/all/bestof2004/day6f_1.html

5 of the 10 were PC games, including the eventual winner of the GotY, World of Warcraft.  For the price of 2 next gen consoles, you can get yourself a pretty decent gaming PC and enjoy all these ringers.
