Anybody else notice this?

Well, it's not that difficult to figure out.  First of all is the PRICE.  Secondly, there are very few good games right now.  And even fewer games EXCLUSIVE to the PS3.  I have a PS3 and XBOX360 but if a game is on both systems I will be more inclined to purchase the 360 version because I feel like I'm getting more for my money.  With the 360 version when you put time into playing the game and do good you are rewarded with achievements....it's a bonus aspect of the 360 experience that really does make a big difference; an important difference.  You feel like you've actually accomplished something.  Whereas if the same game is on the PS3 and you do good or beat the game you don't see any visual recognition for this.....yet.  Hopefully with HOME coming out on the PS3 soon this will change.  But for now....those are the reasons it's not selling as good.  PRICE and FEW GAMES.  Honestly, most of the exclusive launch games were pretty crappy except for RFOM.

Good post, Sonofares. I share your sentiments. On multiplatform games, I get the 360 version for superior online experience and achievements. I got the PS3 for exclusives although it's looking like there are fewer of those each month.

FACT - PS3 offers free online play FACT - PS3 is capable of WiFi right out of the box FACT - PS3 plays the latest, most popular video format (blu-ray) right out of the box FACT - If you wanted an Xbox 360 to do all those things above, you would spend $750 (25% MORE than the PS3 costs) FACT - There are 3rd party exclusives that will use the power of the PS3 and therefore will NOT appear on other consoles FACT - Sony has the longest, and richest history of 1st party exclusives of anyone except for Nintendo FACT - The PS3 is selling faster than the Xbox 360 FACT - Outside of North America the Xbox 360 is WAY behind FACT - The PS3 offers a motion sensitive controller that is being used in better and better ways all the time. Those are the facts. Those are not my opinions. Those are all backed up by actual events, data from vgcharts.org, and categorical truths that cannot be denied.ghaleon0721

Wow - it's rare to find a post with so many errors and outright delusions.  Congratulations, Ghaleon0721!  ;)

1.  PS3 online is free because it's not worth paying for.  It lacks unified friends list across all games, voicechat on all games (and across games), etc.

2.  WiFi - I guess that's nice if you look for that.  Although I have WiFi I wire all my consoles for fastest possible speed.

3.  Blu-Ray is hardly the most popular format.  You do realize that HD-DVD and Blu-Ray combined don't even reach 1% of overall movie sales?  It's too early to say which (if either) format will survive.  Blu-Ray is getting a temporary boost from PS3 owners who want to use their PS3 for something since there are so few decent games to play.  It's worth noting that UMD saw the same blip shortly after PSP launched and look how well that worked out.

4.  You're missing the entire point of 360.  It's designed and offered as a modular system so you can pick and choose the features that are important to you.  For the record, the $400 360 plays HD movies just fine - you don't need the HD-DVD add-on, just download them from Live.

5.  The rest of your post is primarily opinion and conjecture.  While PS3 is technically selling more units 4 months after launch the FACT remains that 360 was supply constrained in NA until March.  Sony would kill to be in that position.  Regardless, PS3 is not competing against the past but what is available to consumers today.  Today, consumers are voting with their pocket books for 360 and Wii, because both are outselling the PS3.  PS3 is not outselling 360 outside of NA.  It is outselling 360 in xenophobic Japan, but do you realize that 360 is available in all territories and has sold over 5 million units outside of NA?

I guess it's a step in the right direction, but the PS3 still has a long way to go to catch up to the feature set on the 360.

[QUOTE="PsyKosis"][QUOTE="onemic"] The funny thing that everyone seems to forget is that the 360 has lost just as many exclusives as the ps3. KoolEmpty

THANKYOU for finally pointing that out...

Which games I would like to know? Since my friend is a sony hater and I would like to have some more combacks.

Oblivion, Saint's Row...I think there are more?

There is also the chance of Dead Rising and Lost Planet making their way over, but yes, you are right on Oblivion and Saint's Row.

Um, Oblivion and Saint's Row were never exclusives - there simply wasn't another next gen console available for them to show up on when they released. I think you're missing the entire "exclusive" point. Getting a game a year after it showed up on a competing console is hardly anything worth crowing about. Having a previously announced exclusive release simultaneously on both consoles is what makes a difference. To date, there is not a single formerly exclusive 360 title which will launch on the same date on the PS3. The same cannot be said of former PS3 exclusives...

What exclusives are you refering to. And when something is anounced for one console, it's an exclusive, until it's anounced for another.

I'm refering to Assassin's Creed, Unreal Tournament 3 and Mercenaries 2. Conversely, I don't think 360 getting Virtua Fighter several months after PS3 does it any good either. In the last gen, neither console had a very good track record on games which had released months before on the competing platform. As gamers, the hype for a game tends to have a very short life span. :)

[QUOTE="grognard"][QUOTE="onemic"]Looks like andrew parks second argument saying that blu ray player in the ps3 has done nothing to push sales of the format has already been refuted by this article showing that blu ray has once again for the second month in a row been beating HD-DVD in sales.

Declaring a winner this earlier in the "platform wars" is pointless. Personally, I think it was foolish for either format (Blu-Ray or HD-DVD) to even bother launching as it seems far more likely people will simply download HD movies from now on. The people who care about HD content are early adopters and already have broadband internet access. I think they'll both end up failing, but that's just my 2 cents worth.

Yeah I know what you're saying, I'm just stating that andrew parker stated, "PS3 Home is an interesting start, but as a Blu-ray player, for instance, the hardware has stalled. Unlike the original PS2, which was arguably a Trojan Horse for the DVD format back in 2000 and sold extremely well as the first DVD player for many households, the PS3 hasn't been anywhere near as successful with the Blu-ray format." As you can see from the article I linked as well as others since the PS3 came blu-ray has been beating HD-DVD in sales, thus refuting parkers argument. Not only that the margin between the two formats is becoming bigger and bigger. People will buy movies no matter what so I think that in the end one of the formats will become a successor to the DVD. Not only for movies, but for any type of entertainment including games.

Fair enough, Onemic. I'm buying Casino Royale on Blu-Ray tomorrow so I guess I'm just being a hypocrite! ;)

Personally, I thought this was an excellent article which took a very constructive approach.  I don't know why so many people feel the need to ally themselves with a corporation and act as apologists.  I own all available game systems because I simply love gaming - not the companies that make them.

Sony is suffering from self-inflicted wounds and needs to take many serious steps to correct these.  I'm surprised, this late in the game, that so many fanboys are still buying into the "just wait a little longer" promises from Sony.  How many times do you have to get burned before you start wondering why you keep waiting for them to get their act together when the competition is already delivering?  The PS3 is not competing against the original xbox or the 360 when it launched - it's competing against the 360/Live experience as it exists off the shelf today.

Sony needs to spend less time telling us what they plan to do and actually do it.  Here's a timeline with some facts to illustrate the point:

Late 2005/Early 2006 - Sony says PS3 will launch in Spring and surpass Live features.  Curiously, no components have been ordered, no contract manufacturers have been selected and no third-party game developers have SDK's for this supposed Spring launch.

Spring 2006 - Just kidding, PS3 will actually launch WORLDWIDE in Fall and surpass Live features.  We're glad you believed us and didn't buy that 360 this past Holiday saving up for the PS3 we told you was coming soon.

Fall 2006 - Hah, got you again!  Now PS3 will only launch in Japan and US and Spring 2007 for the rest of the world and we're going to remain curiously quiet about specific online plans but trust us, they'll be great.

Launch 2006 - still no word on what we plan on doing online despite the fact we just launched our console.  Third party developers cut online entirely or offer bare bones game specific features/lobbies (Tony Hawk, etc.) as a result.

Early 2007 - we'll have a firmware update in March adding most of the features consumers say they want (curiously no third-party developers have SDK's so they can implement these features).

March 2007 - Home will take online to a whole new level - just wait until Fall for it.  Again, third-party developers still have no idea this late in development how to address online with Sony.

See a pattern???  Don't believe it until you actually see it and can use it yourself.

The 360 Live team's official blog posted that the arcade version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be released this Wed. for 400 points ($5).
