While some may be pricey based on name, I'm not someone who buys based on price. I don't see how you can say that Bose is low-quality, and if something sounds good I honestly couldn't care less what it's made of, and I'm pretty picky most of the time. Sennheiser is an excellent company for mics, headphones, etc. but I guess it's a per-product thing for me whether or not it's good. In a way, that's pretty applicable for most of the companies you listed. For example, I dislike most AKG products, but they create the D112, my personal favorite kick drum mic.

I'll be ordering Astro A40s shortly (the new wireless system with 5.8GHz) Through a lot of research it seems like this is what you're going to find: 1. There's two game headsets, ones that sound amazing in general and ones made for gaming. the gaming ones will have little to no bass (with the exception of triton pros and ax720s, havent researched/and/or tried other tritton models) most of the time in order to focus on the high-mid/treble that will allow you to hear footsteps, reloading, and other animation sounds that will help you detect the enemy. They won't sound all that impressive for music and/or movies so if it says gaming, those probably are not for you. Personally, I'll be using A40s for gaming, and Bose Around-Ear for Music, Movies, etc. (now utilizing the amp that comes with the A40s as it is extremely well made) 2. 2 SPEAKERS =/= SURROUND. It doesnt make sense from the beginning!! Yes, a wider, more well-developed stereo spread and frequency range can give the illusion of surround sound but even Tritton headphones that claim to have several speakers inside will only sound so much like surround sound, some are closer than others. These surround sound headphones will usually have a better bass range though due to the addition of a "sub". Usually this is a toggle for bass boost (as included on A40s) Company Specifics (what seems to be the big 3, sennheisers are good and popular too but i dont know enough about to talk about them fairly): Turtle Beach is lowline no matter how many fanboys will speak otherwise. I personally own X41s and wish I could return it for anything other than store credit. Call me picky, but it sounded completely muddy in the low range and completely tinny in the highs. The lower range (X11) is just that, except no bass at all. It was a successful gaming headset but there was no bass, at all. Not trying to be a hypocrite, but the lacking forced it to be quiet or a percussive mess in my ear of clashing treble frequencies. This is not even to mention the existence of a loud hiss. It's extremely annoying at times. The dial moves only so much giving you only so much precision control over the volumes. Yes, there is optic sound on higher models, but honestly, the sound quality questions if it makes that big of a difference. They're comfortable but the batteries drain quick. Verdict: Turtle Beach, high and low line, is all lowline, bragging fanboys clearly haven't given other companies a chance (especially those with X41s) Tritton: It's unfortunate that most of the problems I have with these are in the design, not the sound. The headset mic piece is completely unreliable by my own experience, my friends experience, and for several youtube reviewers (feel free to look up what im talking about, im not alone in any of these problems). This is more along the lines of a non-gaming headset based on the frequency range. It ouputs a lot more low-end, making it more powerful and a significantly quieter hiss than that of Turtle Beach. Unfortunately, they feel like they look, heavy and at times uncomfortable. They might sound alright, but not sure if it's worth it. Customer service is little to none so good luck if that mic breaks or if any problems occur (which isnt all too rare). This headset has the closest to surround sound if thats what you're going for, but in the end, it's a gimmick, and more or less all in your head. These are okay if you're lucky enough not to have a hardware problem (seriously good luck). Also, if you have interest in these headsets, be sure to try both the AX720 and AXPro as different people felt differently about both Astro: After wayyy too many youtube reviews, frequency range tests done by various people on youtube, general word of mouth, and simple hardware information on the site, and personal experience, these seems to me as the way to go. Honestly, if you're willing to spend the money, do it. These are gaming headsets, don't expect an amazing frequency range here, it's almost all mids and highs, but you will hear everything. I mean everything. Footsteps and reloading from across the map will come in pretty crystal clear. They're not typical to what most are hearing during games so they'll take adjusting but damn these are worth it. The A30s are a bit more bass oriented, but not as clear as the A40s. Despite what most people keep saying, they DO have Optic...the new 5.8GHz is primarily based on Optic. Unlike a huge problem with Tritton with the ridiculous amount of wires, the new setup for Astros will require two wires into the main hub, and two wires from the mixer (one if ur using anything besides a 360). The new headset comes with a bass booster that although very subtle, makes a difference. They are extremely comfortable to wear, even after hours of playing. The big hitters are usually the X41s, AX720s, AXPros, PC 360s, A40s, A30s. If you're not willing to dish out the cash for A40s/30s, definitely do your games justice with the Sennheisers or possibly a Tritton. If you're going below that budget, clearly you can't be too picky about sound and can go for a Turtle Beach, but once you enter the 100+ range please get something else. If you're going over 200, spend the extra and get Astros. There may be some information missing per company, I'm not a pro, I'm someone who's done a lot of research, I don't need a bunch of people complaining, standing up for their favorite headset. If you don't like what I wrote, ignore it, if you do, hope it helps. Cheers.

theres many, which one varies on your price range. also, i particularly think that turtle beaches sound pretty poor, even the higher line, and theres better choices. to answer your question, pretty much any non-wireless headset is gonna be battery-free. If you have your heart set on that brand, they have a wired equivalent of just about every set they have wireless. honestly, save a bit more and buy something worth using, as the previous poster noted, they sound horrible. im not even saying to buy something extremely expensive such as astros, u can get a good logitech or sennheiser (the better of the two being sennheiser) headset for slightly more and be much more pleased with the results, trust me on that. also, tritton does sound better but hardware issues are something to watch out for. i know im going off topic but both companies ive mentioned (sennheiser and logitech) make reasonable quality (matched to their price) wired headsets that you should def look into.

Do you need these for consoles, PC, or both?

Do you need the mic?

ChubbyGuy40
If i didnt need the mic i would stick with my Bose headphones. Preferably both but as long as it can be plugged through 1/8" plugs (so i can use it for both) I'll be alright.

Okay, I've been using my Bose Over-Ear headphones for a while now but now need something with headset capabilities. I'm not looking to go above 200 unless that's exactly what i need. I currently own X11s from Turtle Beach and find that the bass is next-to-nonexistent and high-volumes can result in white noise overlay. I'd also like something that's noise isolating if at all possible. The only headset's ive given look (none of which I've tried in person) are: X41S PC 350/360s Astros A30/A40 (which are out of my preferred price range but have been told theyre incredible) I'm welcome to reviews of the one's ive mentioned and outside recommendations. Try to keep in 50-200 region if possible (despite my hypocrisy) but im welcome to near outside suggestions. Thanks in advance

I thought they were both incredible games. Crysis is very nice to look at and has some fun gameplay too. Dead space is a classic! It has some of the best atmosphere and gameplay you will find out there. Wearing headphones is a must!

Haha always fire up the Bose headphones for games like that. Those things brought Bad Company 2 and Mass Effect 2 to life. Thanks for the responses everyone. Pretty much am planning getting both at this point, just wish there was a more recent demo of Crysis was available for me to try out... Anyway, More feedback is still welcome!

I hear mixed things on both games. Some people love them and some people hate them. It's not a decision making process, I'll get both if people lead me to do so. Note: don't tell me a game sucks if you haven't played it and I'm not worried about system specs, I know that seems to be a popular problem for Crysis but I've played the prerelease demo without problems and that runs slower than the game itself. Thanks

Okay so me and my friend are looking to get Assassin's Creed for 360 and personally, I'm kind of sick of discs. If I get Assassin's Creed through Games On-Demand will other profiles on my hard drive be able to play the game as well?
