@olddadgamer:I like the game for I'm Firefly and Farscape fan but I understand why people dislike it:

• weird color palette. cannot say if your hardware getting broken or the art direction didn't exist. people are weirded out

• start of the game is not promising. "spacer choice" stuff NPCs say is cringy. if you have a thing for mindless customers wasting money to waste and if you dislike capitalism and find humor in it such talk can be considered as artistical and smart, but ordinary people who enjoy playing fortnite to forget the stress they experience in the day who don't think much in their life will only see the cringe in the theme of the game

• the game has real life elements ordinary players dislike. the whole capitalism idea bad reminder of how society owned by governments by tying them to debts. after people pay taxes to governments that are a legal mafia organizations playing this game trigger PTSD of people lol. for kids it also remind them the harsh truth of they are forced to be a student just to be owned and work to make a living. point of entertainment industry is making people forget bad aspect of life

• maps are too small. for example I care about quality so I don't mind a game's map is small but efficient, on the other hand for example gta 5 praised for its big map size for the sake of pointlessly big and compared to gta san andreas people dislike how cities are small despite there are 3 cities. people want whatever they own big as much as possible. no wonder people own big cars, big houses like actually need it :DDD. however whatever that's big has to have a content, otherwise infinite but big is empty of people which is bad and that's why starfield disliked lol

• cloth designs players can wear is too bad. I agree. you need to play a lot to even able to wear something normal

• visual style is too colorful. people dislike things are not logical like real life. so everything look like rainbow hurts eyes of people

• developed by fallout new vegas' developer but the game is nothing like new vegas on complexity of RPG. it make people expect and in the end they cannot have what they expect. dialogues and side content are unworthy. I agree. I take this game as an action game for I'm Firefly and Farscape fan so the game satisfy me enough but I'm not sure if I had like this game if I didn't even have a thing for sci-fi and space exploration

• the game is wannabe bethesda style fallout, it bothered lots of people who already dislike bethesda and their fallout games

I can list more but I can say the game became a success in its own context anyway for new players started to like the game because they didn't play good old RPGs as the people who played outer worlds when it first came out so naturally anyone dislike starfield or no man's sky will be attracted to this game. the game has way better "like to dislike ratio" than starfield is on Steam. how people reacted to these games are no rocket science. anyone who had business management and administration education can predict that outcome for this is literally the job of BMA

they should shut down bethesda and fire todd howard. why he is still allowed to work on video games beats me. he lack so much vision he trust modders to do the job of bethesda and bethesda develop games like they are developed by random kids kidnapped to develop the game. cannot imagine if they had decent education and experience in programming they would be that bad to develop a video game so they probably use some random kids on internet to develop the game for cheap as possible and they send their codes via email or something :DDD

the mad max game was fun as hell. that's the point that being fun. which gamer care about cutscene or story in a video game? if you do then you are not a gamer, you are watcher so go watch netflix. the mad max game's developer didn't release hideo kojima-like "interactive story program" for they didn't have to because if they did it wouldn't be a video game. video games are not about stories, they are about gameplay being fun. if you want story direct a movie, don't try to be a movie director in video game context. hideo kojima and modern sony killed video gaming. basically chore "gameplay" filled with lots of talking and watching is not a video game, it's a movie born broken like mutated babies that supposed to be a video game

the only bad aspect of mad max's game was the creature hanging out with you and stuck in your car and lots of pointless side content to do which is bad when you waste your time to grind them and expect something worthwhile in return which turns up pointless. when you wanna finish all side content before doing main story the whole pointless side content suck your time and soul too much and the gameplay gets similar at some point making story pointless because half way there in side content you already have the all fun you can ever have

so the main idea of the gameplay is fun as it last. what's bad is they didn't do anything to make the gameplay keep playable. still they managed to release a fun game regardless compared to most video games released after 2010. golden age of video games were between 2005-2006. video gaming died in 2010. then 2015 video gaming resurrected a little but died again in that year. ever since then they release "story program BS" with generic simple gameplay. look at Death Stranding. if you want a "game" like that then what you want is not a game, you just want a movie in skin of a pointless game. then it mean you know nothing about how a game suppose to be so then shut up and direct a movie, don't touch video game industry lol. I rather play crazy bus for a year than playing death stranding for a minute lol. hideo kojima cannot develop a video game, even the success of metal gear franchise as a game was because of konami, despite "hideo kojima game" text that disregard lots of people who actually worked hard to make metal gear games playable lol

hmm weird. they didn't mention why I play games: fun. yes simply. just fun :DDD

"unwind and relieve stress (54%)"

honestly new games give me stress. old games were designed to make you die but it was fun, in old games you watch and watch. they fill you will lots of story related information and basically the whole point is interactive story telling which give me stress. during university I had lots of law classes and even during the whole subject I wasn't exposed with that much information as I played Death Stranding (the game is whole bundle of how to not develop a video game like that 101). for example I tried the last uncharted game on steam. they talk too much and the character can only walks for story related reasons. it gives me more boredom and stress. not to mention the game has one way to solve puzzle. cannot just shoot the chains and make the bridge drop, no, trigger story events and solve the puzzle to make the bridge drop lmao. the act to pass the game is not rewarding. even first super Mario bros game has the proper "how to develop video game 101" game logic, not new games. new games are too simple so it doesn't feel rewarding or fun. you just play to skip gameplay to watch story -- this is not a video game

since I'm 2 years old I'm surrounded with people talk too much, I also kinda play a game to don't wanna exposed with lots of information. I just wanna start the game and do fun stuff. now games asks too much. they force tutorials like they'll give me diploma for it. what happened with intuitive gameplay directing? lots of keys to press but they don't mean significant things. I still don't play sega genesis games for the sake of nostalgia bruh

"creation, imagination, and self-expression" (46%)."

I paint artworks or produce music for it. IDK if they meant to say they play Minecraft or something lol. never in my life I saw a video game allow these. you are always limited to the choice of what the developers picked for you

"the top five in-game customization players seek out to express themselves include character personalization (76%), Gamertags and usernames (48%), communication (35%), signatures and emblems (31%), and emotions and gestures (30%).

The report also found that there is a significant gap between how people express themselves in real life versus online. 80% of respondents said their "gamer personality" is different than their real-life personality. And then 64% said it's easier to be themselves online rather than in person."

I think they are introverts or people who is not content with who they are. this is insanity

you may justify your insanity as personal preference however for example I see character creation as creating a character that fits into the universe of the game. if it's roleplaying game, creating myself or creating a character changes the gameplay experience is what I would expect from RPGs, I don't see a point to be a person I'm not otherwise

"The Inside Gaming report went on to say that 60% of people believe self-expression in gaming is more important than ever before, with the study specifically calling out titles like Fortnite, Minecraft, and Roblox for offering extensive options to personalize their characters"

isn't fortnite allow you to just pick skins of popular characters? does it even have character creation? I didn't play it since alpha or something for I was waiting for new updates on new unreal tournament game which turned out to be a lie

Minecraft is just box people, cannot even immerse myself into it

as for roblox, I'm not sure what kind of game is that. I always thought it's one of the popular flash games lol

"respondents said gaming communities represent "vital safe spaces" where they feel free to express themselves, unlike how they might be able to in real life."

oh really? for example on cyberpunk 2077's reddit I asked "I didn't play the game since day 1, so what changed now as what fundamental features added or changed" which no where in google mention it, but people just downvoted me to oblivion. is it being "safe space?"

I actually take it these insane people cannot be toxic IRL so they being toxic in games and internet which is what they really mean. yes their safe place on internet is places like reddit that moderators allow soft porn and whatnot but deny normal questions or fan messages lol

honestly, back then people disliked sega CD games for they are interactive story telling programs. now they do the same but people love it. just because these people are not gamer, they are watcher or anyone just wanna escape from reality. no wonder I still play God Hand for fun or immerse myself in the world of Racing Lagoon. last video game I liked was witcher 3, rest is boring. even metal gear series gone bad with MGS phantom pain

video game companies have bad PR sense. they scan internet to get to know their target audience when lots of people don't use internet for a good reason: internet is filled with insane people. so they develop video games for insane people which push out anyone sane. if they had develop a proper game they would sell more but they actually wanna spend less money and satisfy a specific target audience to make money. they even ignore "try to satisfy everyone" mentality anymore. no wonder video gaming died. people just buy games but never play it because they have lots of money but insane enough to waste money for nothing lol

they should have sell the next-gen update as DLC so whole modding community or ordinary player experience wouldn't ruined. so many people I know bug me because I'm gamer and "know your stuff" but they don't. lots of them bought the game because of the tv series and mods, and they refunded the game because they won't bother with a game that doesn't work. good job bethesda, these guys keep inventing "how to kill business 101" :DDD
