Right. Recreating Rapture from scratch is totally "lazy". Finding a new story there (rather than simply telling of it's fall/doing the whole "midichlorian thing") is "lazy."

Do you know what is easy and lazy? Empty, vapid cynicism. I think this looks great.

Whaaaaaaaat? You can't enter if you're not in the US?! NO FAIR! I'm in the UK, many consider that to be the 51st state.

Living with depression, impostor syndrome and an acute anxiety disorder, in the past I wouldn't get out of bed for days on end, save to get food or go to the bathroom. These excursions would be carefully planned so as not to see my housemates, even though they were my friends and would have been mortified to know I was avoiding them. I felt I couldn't talk to my them, because they'd realise that I'd been tricking them into thinking I was interesting/funny/worth knowing/caring about for all these years. I felt I couldn't talk to a doctor about it, because they'd point out that there was nothing really wrong with my life. I wasn't ill like the lady in this video. I had plenty of friends, family, a degree and a job. I was just being pathetic, a horrible, undeserving little fraud, and I should just pull myself together and stop wasting everybody's time.

So I'd sit and think about all the places I should be and things I should be doing with my life, big and small, but the more I thought, the harder it was to actually do anything. "Well yes I could do x, y and z, but if I was going to do that then I really should have started hours/days/years ago." So I would do nothing all day. Literally nothing, not even watch TV. Just think and sleep. But then I started gaming again, which really helped. Here was a way to stay in my room, carry on avoiding human interaction, but to still feel like I was doing something with my time. Especially helpful were games that required a huge investment of time and energy, and I created much more successful lives for myself in Skyrim and the Capitol Wasteland. There's nothing wrong with escapism if the only alternative is sitting and stagnating for days on end, and once I'd gotten rid of the crippling guilt from doing absolute-0 with my time, it was easier to deal with the other problems I had, and find someone to talk to.

Sorry if this sounds waffly or self-indulgent, but I thought this was a great little documentary, and wanted to add my two-penneth worth to the discussion. Plus anonymity helps. I think part of the reason so many people take so long to talk to their doctors or other people who could help them is that they're worried they'll get a response like the comment from @miser_cz below: "Depression is a sissy disease; keep smiling and be glad you don´t have cancer". It's great to see that for every comment like that, there are twenty more constructive ones, and well done to GameSpot and Danny for having the guts to put a 20-minute-long piece about such a taboo subject on the homepage.

@miser_cz Half of the people who die because of depression do so without ever seeking help for it - help which is readily available in most countries. The reason they don't seek the help that could save their life is because they're worried pricks like you will turn around and say "Depression is a sissy disease; keep smiling and be glad you don´t have cancer :)"
