Back to the Row

I am going back to spend some more time on Saint's Row 2 again. I am going to apply the patch and try not to whine about how crappy it will still continue to play on my rig. In fact, driving to work this morning I thought about eight (8) things that would make Saints Row 2 as close to perfection as possible.

Things that Improve Saints Row 2:

•1. A graphics engine like GTA 4.

•2. A cover system like GTA 4

•3. Graphical quality like GTA 4

•4. Driving mechanics like GTA 4

•5. Car Models like GTA 4

•6. Character animations like GTA 4

•7. Sound like GTA 4

•8. More time on the timed side missions so that people could enjoy playing them.

All jokes aside there were a number of things that I liked about Saint's Row 2 that I think to be fair I should mention.

Things that I like about Saint's Row 2.

•1. The story was interesting.

•2. Most of the side-missions were fun to play.

•3. The level of character creation was ridiculously satisfying.

•4. The number and types of weapons available were just right.

Let's see how this sucker plays with the patch applied.

I have returned

Ok

I am still alive for all of you who were hoping that I was not. Yeah I am talking about you. It has been a while since I posted anything.Between work and life's regular duties I only had time for the other important things, like gaming.

I have just completed Fallout 3 and all I can say is that it is one heck of a game. It has everything and lacks nothing. Well, almost nothing. I only wish that I could have continued to level up after level 20, but, after thinking about it it made perfect sense to end the leveling at 20 since it allows us to have a well balanced character.

A word of advice, play the game through at least 2 times. Once with a male character and then as a female character. Get the lady killer perk as a male and the black widow perk as a female. As forest Gump would say, "That's all I have to say about that."

VAT ROCKS.

Mass Effect

I have just completed my first play through of Mass Effect playing as a soldier. All I can say is I was blown away.

I have played tons of RPGs (Role Playing Games and not Rocket Propelled Grenades) and I can safely say that Mass Effect takes a piece of the pie. Aside from the gamplay there are several elements which made this game on of the best that I have ever played.

The story drives the game. It follows the same formula as many other scripts but the way that the elements are melded together with the interactions of the characters allows the game stand out.

The cinematics can only be described as excellent. The gameplay and in-game movies flowed together was so natural that it felt as thought there was no difference between the two of them.

The mini-games or puzzles as young gamers call them were interesting and fun to play. They were not difficult to the point where I had to pull my hair out because I could not solve them or had to play them over a half dozen times to solve them like in some of the other games that I have had the unfortunate luck of playing.

Many of the choices that we must make in the game really does matter in the long run since they will have unforeseen outcomes that will affect the story.

Finally, the music score. The choice of music was tastefully chosen. The music sets the mood and complements the visuals and the part of the story that the player happen to be playing. I found use of horned instruments in parts of the story definitely conveys the hero effect on the player.

I am on my second play-through now playing as an Infiltrator.

Can't Get Enough of Far Cry 2

Far Cry 2 is like sugar cake, I can't get enough of it. I have been running it on the lowest settings on my old 5 year old rig and I am on my second playthrough.

It's everything that Far Cry 1 was and more.

My Next Rig

I am looking at this rig with some interest.

Low game scores from GameSpot reviewers

There has been a lot of controversy within the last few months surrounding the low review scores given by Gamespot to games like Kane and Lynch, Too Human and more recently Mercenaries 2. The situation has gotten to the point where members our the community have gone so far as to state that certain reviewers should be "fired" for giving scores that they do not agree with. They have even been vicious open web attacks by people who as far as I am concerned are just looking to make a biger name for themselves and should know better since they are attacking their peers.

Let me start by saying that I do not believe that any reviewer should be fired for giving a game a score that is considered "too low" or "too high". Gamespot's reviewers follow a set of criteria which breakdown to a final score, but at the end of the day it all boils down to the opinion of the person reviewing the game. So in the defence of the Gamespot's reviewers all I can say is that they are doing the job that love and are paid to do. They are gamers who are lucky enough to have made it their profession.

It is left up to the consumers to read as may reviews and watch game play movie samples as they can find across the web before they decide to buy a game, whether it was given a bad review or not.

My biggest concern when deciding if I should buy any game is the number of technical issues that has been reported about it and the length of the average playing time. I will not spend good money on a game that is technically unsound or a game that only l 100% complete in less than 15 hours. Gamespot reviews are excellent for getting that kind of information and I will continue to use them for that purpose.
