Day 1
We arrived at the trailhead at 10:30am and the five of us started up the trail on a sunny day. The trail climbs gradually through the woods along a stream. Then we hit the serious climbing. We climbed 2200 feet in 4.5 miles and arrived at Colchuck Lake. It was surrounded by mountains and we could see the pass we needed to climb the next day called Asgard Pass (1 mile, 2200 feet elevation gain).

Day 2
We woke up to rain showers that turned into rain as we headed up Asgard Pass. It was a miserable day of hiking but at least we weren’t cooking in the sun. Took us 5 hours to go that one mile but we finally arrived at the top. We set up camp but had a difficult time keeping the tents in place because there were 70 mile per hour wind gusts all afternoon and night (we were at 7800 feet).

Day 3
We woke up to beautiful weather the next day (which we had for the entire rest of the trip).

Dragontail Peak from our campsite early in the morning with the full moon above.

Isolation Lake from the campsite in the morning with Little Annapurna in the back.
Took a lot of pictures of the peaks and lakes and then most of us decided to climb Little Annapurna. This is when things got very strange. We got to the top and were sitting around when a woman came up the side of the mountain asking us to call 911… someone was hurt. We all tried to use our cell phones and another guy was able to get through using roaming. Then the guy that was with the girl came up to us to describe what had happened. Turns out he found a guy that had fallen down a snow slope and off a cliff on the mountain next to us and had slid out onto the ice on a lake. When he found him he was already dead… probably happened in the weather the day before. So the call no longer was about getting medical help but more about recovery. Unfortunately, one of our party went down the hill with the girl to help, we also had radioed one of our party back at camp to see if he could get help and one of our party had gone down the mountain to get help along the trail. So we were all separated.
Took us awhile to get back together and then we hiked on down the trail to our next camp spot at a place called Perfection Lake. During that evening we saw and heard the helicopter that took the man’s body off the mountain. It was strange but we all toasted our fellow hiker and wished his family well.

Day 4
We woke up the next day with about 10 goats in our campsite. They like to eat urine if you can believe it so they are always waiting and searching. We were all pretty tired so we hung out in camp and took a nap until around noon and then we broke camp. It was hard to leave also because this was our best camp spot yet. We headed down the trail into possibly the most beautiful stretch of our trip but also possibly the most difficult section. I was so tired and my legs were so tired when we got to the next lake where we camped. Later that night, after we felt better, we grabbed our headlamps and decided to climb up a boulder field above the campsite. Probably wasn’t very smart but it was fun. :)

Day 5
The next day we woke up early and headed down the trail. We had to drop 3700 feet to the parking lot which is the worst type of hiking for me. Downhill kills my legs and is why I am so sore today. After we got to our cars (and retrieved our cars at the other trail head since we did a loop) we went to Leavenworth (a Bavarian style town) and got a cheeseburger and fries. I had been craving it for a couple of days and it was the best ever.
Well, that's it... hope you enjoyed my story. :) Talk with everyone soon.
Peace and love.
