Ive been looking to buy a new receiver for awhile, but im having a hard time finding one with decent reviews. I dont want to spend more then $399.99 before taxes, and would much rather not have to get it shipped from somewhere, unless its in store (like bestbuy or futurshop). I just need model numbers to look out for basically since im sure most things wont be available to me locally. So far the only one that has caught my eye is Sony STRDH700 7.1 Receiver (Best Buy link).

Its going to be used for Gaming/Movies not so much for Music, but I will once in awhile. It would be nice if it had 3 HDMI slots at least and 1-2 Optical inputs. I dont plan on using more then 5.1 any time soon, and atm ive only got 2 front speakers (2 other Yamaha's but not sure about there sound quality all 4 are capable of about 100watts.) so it doesnt matter a whole lot. Its going to be used in a fairly small room, about 12x10 feet.

Thanks in advance for the help

Camping doesnt take any skill, it doesnt necessarily make you a noob, however If your sitting around a corner with some automatic or a pro cylinder, your a noob. Its justifiable in certain areas, aslong as your not directly focusing in one place, that people need to go. If your in a building theres no problem, but if the game itself is feeding you kills because of spawns or something, then your a noob.

I currently have a very old receiver, its a Realistic STA-84, my mom had it when she was 20 I believe, 30 years ago lol. Im looking to buy a new one, and was wondering how big of a difference the sound quality is, my current receiver just plugs into the TV's headphone jack. Is the sound quality difference comparable to say a PC with a soundcard over on board? Im looking at a Toshiba RXV 565 at a local store, which is on sale for 399.99 down from 549.99 and its there last in stock, would the sound difference be very big (Im using some very nice old speakers that can probably do about 120watts, my current receiver doesnt do nearly that and this one is 90watts per channel not to mention 7.1 over 2.0 lol)? I dont want to do any internet shopping for something this big, there a **** to return if needed and I dont want to deal with the hassle.

So would the difference in quality be big enough that I should snatch this up while I can, I dont want to pay more then 399.99$ before taxes, and the only retailers near me that sell this kind of stuff are Bestbuy, Futureshop, Walmart and Audio Video Unlimited.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Sorry if this sounds dumb, I dont have much experience with any of this stuff and I threw this thread together fairly quickly. Id be using it in a small 10x12 foot room, mostly for Video Games and Movies.

Edit: My current Realistic STA-84 only does 25 watts per channel, and it only does stereo.

It might make your room hot as hell but it wont effect the TV.

Im looking for a TV around $1000-$1300 (before taxes) and it must be atleast 120hz. Plasmas are by far the cheapest. The thing is ive been taken into all that old burn in hype and im not sure if it would be my best bet. Id probably not get HD cable, and just keep my regular because its free, I have no problem that it will look weird, I already have an HD tv.The thing is since regular tv is 4:3 and not 16:9 will the black bars burn into the tv?I also like to play games on my TV clearly, so that is one of my other big concerns, I dont generally game for more then 2 hours, unless I get a big release title that ive been waiting for.

Also, how's the power on them, im sure they take much more electricity to power them compared to an LCD.

I was really liking this TV, http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/samsung-samsung-50-1080p-600hz-plasma-hdtv-pn50b540-pn50b540/10122395.aspx?path=bc0788421db46375fb1f10c033081ad8en02 50" Ultra Slim, 1080p 600hz, however I have yet to see the response rate for many of these TV's.
