I told my brother about the comments in this thread about playing real sports versus sports gaming and he came back with this reply: "Another reason I play sports games is to make it to the championships with the Lions which is never going to happen in real life." :)

sports games, I really have trouble figuring out why people dont just go outside and play sports instead of playing it on a console...

Sports strikes me as the only genre of games that is possible in real life.

Maddie_Larkin

Some people who enjoy sports games actually do play sports as well. My brother and his group of friends love sports. Playing basketball, football, baseball, bowling, golf...if it's a sport either my brother or one of his friends plays AND they play only sports games. Trust me, I don't get it myself. Madden 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012....NB2K to infinity. Each sports game comes out each year and they're out at midnight purchasing it. There are weekly tournaments and lots ot trash talking, so I get the community aspect of it, but what's the difference between one year and the next? I often tease my brother, making him detail those differences and often it has to do with the improved realism of the grass or some other such thing.

He's tried other genres and he beats the game, then sells them. So I guess he just likes sports genre above all others (besides Rock Band/Guitar Hero/DJ Hero

I'm pretty limited in my genres but I absolutely can't stand fantasy. Too bad most RPG's are fantasy based.

There's a 360 and a Wii in the household, but my main system is the DS. One reason, because I'm a working mother who has a million things to do in a day. As it stands there's a load of laundry piling up that's being neglected because of CSI Deadly Intent.

The other reason is very, very sad. I've been a gamer since the Atari 2600, but somehow as the graphics have gotten better (understatement) I've developed a bad case of simulator sickness (or video game sickness, I'm geek enough to have done the research). So I can deal with puzzle/adventure games and anything on a smaller screen helps.

I'm not above taking something to play on the Xbox or Wii but then I have to take time out of my schedule to do all of this and with the DS I can take it with me, or pick it up on the fly whenever I want a gaming fix.

Anyway, you aren't mad. That's why there are so many choices to fit each gamers' needs.

I believe that recommndation threads should be broken down to genre anyway. Per my list, you could see that Grand Theft Auto wouldn't be a must have to me. That's why I usually go to Amazon and focus on the favorite lists of people who like puzzle/adventure games. Personally I offered my opinion to fit the criteria requested by the OP, my must haves. But the list is just my opinion of what he should buy...not that I recommend him to go buy any because he might not like puzzle games....I think. ;)

...but you're going to purchase games based on the ones that make the DS great for me? I'm pretty new to posting, that's different from recommending a game? I don't think I'd recommend something that's not a must have but I guess there are some who would? Well, I'm confusing myself now so here's my must have list.

Hotel Dusk

Meteos

Rhythm Heaven

Professor Layton

Touchmaster

Elite Beat Agents

Animal Crossing Wild World

Nintendogs

Big Brain Academy

Brain Age

...you can see what kind of gamer I am. :)

There are three in the household. My daughter has a blue DSi and a pink Lite. I have a silver Lite.

Are there any advantages of multiple systems? None that I can see, except the other day my Lite ran out of juice and I was able to pick up my daughter's extra one and keep playing.

Originally she had a white Lite, which I used for awhileit was her first system and she wasn't as careful with it, took off the screen protector, used a pen cap as a stylus. It was scratched to heck and when she wanted a DSi, I made her trade it with some awful games at Gamestop. It was actually a great deal because I only ended up paying about $20 for her DSi.

But now I want a DSi for the downloadable games and I'm thinking I don't want to give up any of the Lites now. I'm eventually going to get a DSi for her and get the hand me down blue one.

I don't know why everyone ITT makes it sound like it was a terrible game...I thought it was good...

BrunoBRS
i make it sound like it was terrible because i think it was terrible. i mean, i respect their effort to bring a completely new idea, but make sure it works before releasing.

I think this is why we're getting the sequel so quickly. They should have waited and worked out all of these major gameplay issues before they released it in the first place, but did so hoping the innovation (and hype), would carry it through. That being said, I still enjoy it (more than I should probably) but with S2 they'd better get it right this time!

I preordered this yesterday. Hopefully I won't go mad trying to figure it out. I'm glad there's a lengthy tutorial to help me.

Does this mean I can walk on a bridge I've placed without it falling into an abyss?! I like this game in short bursts. I actually played it this weekend until the physics got frustrating, as usual. Hopefully they really fixed all of those issues because it's a great game otherwise.

I finished the game but I'm just working on getting perfects in all of the categories. I really love it, but I too found many moments of hair-pulling frustrating at times, but something about the catchy tunes and the shortness of the mini-games kept me trying. It's a great game to just pick up on a whim for a few minutes. For me Drummer Duel is impossible to get a perfect on. I stopped trying!
