Was Doom 3 a successful release of doom in a 3D sense after the success of the classics?

im asking this as im thinking bout getting it but not sure if its worth it.

To that collection i would add battlefield 2 and the original Call Of Duty if your looking for quality of online gaming.

 yeah but the fact that battlefield 2 offers so much more to the gamer than just futristic fighting like in 2142,  i just find that BF2 is better in the long term as an online gamer

Counter Strike or Battlefield, but i think you should get battlefield 2 rather than battlefield 2142 as its a better game overall

but from what i have seen from Bioshock I think that the atmosphere and environments will beat all FPS.

Stalker i cant really comment on as ive only played once but from what ive played it seems fairly high up on the environment side of things.
