Sex in games is, okay I guess, but I really find its portrayal pretty unrealistic. Take the mass effect series: here's a story of a man(or woman) who is leading a small team of inter-species warriors and scientists in a desperate battle for nothing less than the continued existence of all organic life in the galaxy......and he(or she) has time and energy to flirt with and have a romance with someone on that team. In real life no commander worth thier rank would fraternize with a subordinate, especially with such high stakes. Most games make sex and relationships seem as uncomplicated as having a few conversations and then getting it on. Sorry, but I'm a hero and I'm trying to save the galaxy and keep alive at the same time, I ain't got time for romance.
"From what we've heard, when they play the game they feel empowered and they feel good," Perna added.......but hey, we don't want them to feel too empowered though, so no female protagonist." What the hell is this, the 50's? Does he honestly think that of a Gears title had a female lead it would hurt sales?
Even though you can do better story telling if you follow the typical KOTOR/BioWare linear type RPG I think I'd prefer a more open world/sandbox game set in the Star Wars universe. Obsidian has proven that they can do both types of games and do them well so I'd buy this regardless of which way they go on this. Here's hoping this gets green-lit.
Eh, whatever. The whole reason I ended buying and Xbox in the first place was so I could play GTA 4 right away instead of waiting for a PC port to come around. Once my PC crashed out for the last time I decided to stay with Xbox for a while and sure I miss mods but there's definitely something to be said about buying a game, putting in my machine and playing it right out of the box without DRM and a half dozen third party programs running in the background to facilitate multi player and party chat. All from the comfort of my couch. I may go back to the PC some day but this gens. consoles have done ok by me so far.
It's about time that someone in the game industry started to defend their product. Now of only some other game company big shots could do the same. It's going to take more than just us gamers to defend our hobby.
@Villergorilla Dude, it totally affects you. Americans make a vast majority of the most popular games and are also the largest consumers. If violent games get regulated in any way do think American developers will still make violent games for export to less restrictive countries? Not likely, if anything other countries who are currently on the fence about video game violence will follow the suite with the US.
I also love how he states that gamers have a "lust for violence". What the heck does that even mean? Hey senator, we're playing games here, not hosting Fightclubs in our basements or going to dogfights. And way to lump us all together too. Stereotypes are bad, but I guess the good senator doesn't know that.
