We know the success of Halo 3. It was reported that it broke $300 million in sales in the first week smashing any other entertainment records for a release. GH3 broke records for Activision selling over $100 million. The difference between the two games is that GH3 was released for the PS2, PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360 and made $200 million less. But that is $100 million over 4 consoles, you can do the math. GH3 had hype around it, it was another entry into one of the most original, MAINSTREAM (i say mainstream because I don't see a lot of my friends clamoring for drum mania, or advertisements for Dram Mania plastered to the walls of best buy). With all that hype GH3 still didn't come close to Halo 3 in sales. When GTA 4 gets released I know that it will have the same amount of hype, maybe a lil more than GH3 surrounding it. But based on the sales of GH3 how is it possible that people can claim that GTA 4 will blow Halo 3's records out of the water? It doesn't make any logical sense. Halo 3 was the first game I waited in line for at midnight and I never plan on doing that again, not only did my nerdom reach a new peak, my hygiene went to an all time low. So right there, there will be one person that will not go to the midnight release, and nor do I ever plan to buy it. I know that I am a select few that isn't excited by GTA 4, but I know that I am not alone. I know that GTA 4 will not beat Halo 3, not saying that Halo 3 is the best game ever that is reserved for Super Mario Bros., but it does not have the push behind it that Halo does, nor will it ever hold that same kind of fervor in as many people. There are a lot of 'I know's in this piece but when looking at precedents from before, I KNOW I will be right.
Oh i can't wait for the Geforce 9 series to come out...but then geforce 10 will be coming out. etc... I too am going to upgrade my rig within the next year but I don't want to buy things too early and be stuck behind the curve. I'll be a sucker and get DDR3, even though it doesn't seem to be doing well performance wise, I'll get PCI-e2 because it will be useful, and then ill be stuck with a bottleneck at the CPU, unless of I get the crazy mad 1200$ CPU. But to answer your question if you can SLI the 8800 GT it looks as if it will be well worth your money.
I know that XP does not have native support for SATA drives. HP has decided that all laptops will come with a SATA drives and without floppy drives. So that makes it nigh impossible to install XP onto a machine. I can try and download the drivers from HP's website but it asks for a floppy anyway so what is the point. How can I extract the driver files without actually putting them onto a floppy. Any help will be appreciated.
Halo 3 is only 8 days away and I am already getting the shakes. Anyway seeing as I am in college and have to go to classes, I was just wondering what people were doing to fit in enough Halo play time to keep up their scholastic priorities? I'm having the gf take the game from me so I don't play too long or miss classes. But when I get done with classes on Thursday it will be a straight shot till the end. Anyone else going to such measures to keep up work/school?
Right now I have an XFX GeForce 6800 xt 256 MB PCI-e. I want to upgrade but i don't know if i should do SLI and get the same exact card or just get a brand new card. What I am wondering is how much of a boost will I get if I jump to say an 8600 256 instead of doing SLI? And with DirectX 10 coming out, a while ago I know, should I just bite the bullet and spend the extra for a DX10 card. Any help is appreciated.
These games have always been an interest for me. I usually hit up the free trials and I am starting a LOTRO trial right now and with all the new MMORPGs coming out, I am wondering which one is the best one to go for. Tabula Rasa looks intriguing but I will probably have to upgrade my system so I want to stay away from it.
Ok PS3 fanboys, enough is enough. "Blu-ray is awesome," "hd-dvd is worthless, it can't do games or music." Just because you want your console to thrive doesn't mean that the media format it plays is going to win. Both medias have their advantages and their disadvantages, your words will not determine the outcome. This may be a little off topic but in regards to MS buying out all the companies to make games for the 360. I remember when the PSX first came out, people were a little wary about it, then Sony started throwing money at developers to develop for their system, much the same way that MS is doing now. So before you go running your mouth about how evil MS is, just remember this, Sony did the same thing to muscle through Nintendo and Sega.
Yea, component may seem a little more reliable but at the same time if he is trying to get 1080p i have yet to see a tv take 1080p input from component. HDMI is a little too expensive for my taste so I'll take my sweet premium console, that has broken twice, and the 5 out of six cables I need to plug in and be quite happy. I do have one question though, why do u need that long of a HDMI cable?
