@WTA2k5 No I totally understand where you're coming from as far as the game not pushing boundaries and it makes total sense. I'm just not sure I'm in agreement about videogames needing to go that route. I have had some incredible experiences from videogames, and the one most closely resembling what you're talking about, I think, was Silent Hill 2. As macabre as it may sound, I'd still say I had fun with that game. So maybe it's just semantics.
@elpooz Developers do have that free pass. There is nothing that restricts them from depicting war, and I'd have it no other way. As the saying goes, if you don't like it, you don't have to play it.
@elpooz @gpm23 In any case, I suppose we don't have the unanimity of military opinion that we had earlier. Totally cool, the email thing was just a thought.
@elpooz @gpm23 How realistic something is is a measure of how closely it mimics the real experience, ie the reaction to being hit by a bullet. Authenticity is similar to realism, but it is not the same thing. The best way I can describe it is that authenticity operates more on the surface level (battle chatter, uniforms, weapons - as Greg said.) The claim is that MoH is authentic, not realistic in how it plays. Greg made this distinction at the beginning of the video. Whether you completely agree with the definitions of those two words is irrelevant; point is, he means to communicate that the game is realistic in how it looks and sounds in order to tell a story, NOT realistic in how it plays.
@gpm23 He said the game disrespected the military. As a former serving Canadian Forces member, I did not feel disrespected by the MoH team. That is what I am focusing on. Regen health is not realistic, no, but the focus is authenticity, which is different. The game is presented in an authentic manner.
@gpm23 @jack_is_cool As someone who served with the Royal Canadian Artillery, I respectfully disagree gpm23. Authenticity is in the presentation, realism is in the mechanics. By that standard, MoH is (largely) authentic, and I side with Greg on the issue.
