''God of War is no longer an old-fashioned action series. With this reboot, it confidently walks a new path that will hopefully lead to more exciting adventures to come.''
There is no need to indirectly trash or dismiss the previous games and the styles that were adopted before just because this is a new game. The ‘brute’ Kratos is just as interesting as the 'relatable' Kratos. The fact that you 'like' this version better doesn't mean the others were wrong or flawed.
‘Brute’ Kratos was driven by intense need for vengeance. His family was murdered, he was betrayed by his father etc. - that JUSTIFIES his rage. After accomplishing his objective, which was to kill his father (and anyone who stood in his way), why should he still hang on to that rage?
Years later he got a new family, new bonds were formed – bonds he hadn’t felt in a long time and as it is shown here, he is still struggling to adapt to them. Do you expect him to still carry his anger around? Kratos loved his late daughter as much as he loves his son. If his family weren’t killed, he would have tuned out the same as he is now.
Gameplay wise, the new gameplay is different and not better than the previous one. That’s all there is to it. Video games with horrible gameplay will never make it as far as the previous GOW games went cos the humans that played them weren’t stupid. They were enjoyable at the time and as a result were extremely successful. A success brought by humans, not robots or idiots.
Let stop with the hypocrisy. This very site gave previous GOW games stellar reviews. Also, it hasn't even been that long. The tone of the review makes it seem as if it was 30+ years ago that the last entry was released.
Finally, this is not a reboot. It is a new entry in the series.
