I agree with Tom in that a lot of developers these days when remaking or remastering a classic game from the past don't add enough new changes to the game to make it stand on it's own merit. However DuckTales Remastered while not deviating from the gameplay mechanics of the original much did add more material to the game for both fans of the cartoon and original game. If I can prefer it over the original unlike TMNT Re-Shelled or Double Dragon Neon then I believe the developer did something righ and they are on the right patht. Wayforward knew who it was trying to please and unfortunately it seems Tom doesn't understand that.

So what about the music Tom? You even mentioned in the review you enjoyed it yet it's not in the good section? What about showing respect to most of the original cast for their voice work. Even though you didn't like hearing it all the time the fact that this will probably be the last time we hear Alan Young do the voice of Scrooge would have been nice to hear you honor. Letting the people that love the cartoon as a kid know that this game is a kind of swan song for them as well would have been nice.

There was a lot of heart put into this game and I truly believe that compared to the original like it should've been this game stands taller and is also one of the best remakes/remasters we've seen in years. I'm just sorry you didn't seem to enjoy it Tom like over three thousand other people did.

@Drkr_Zen @joshphillips I don't mind reviews like this so much as I mind unjustifiable or hypocritical reviews. To me this is both, but I totally get your point though..

Acutally I'm sorry this is my last question because I think it will help everyone including you Tom.

From Toms Smothered by Nostalgia article-

"From the moment the midi rendition of the iconic theme song started to play, visions of sitting in my friend's basement trying to overcome that treacherous Transylvania stage bounced in my head. I was hooked before I even picked up the controller."

From Toms review-

"DuckTales Remastered will make you doubt happy memories from your childhood, or leave you baffled as to why people were nostalgic for such dull platforming in the first place."

I'm not sure I understand seeing these side by side. You enjoyed the original and were hooked to it yet now you say it's dull? Why because now we have games that allow us to move in a 3D space? I thought your favorite types of games were platformers? Which is it Tom? I'm not trying to attack you I'm just trying to make sense of all this so I can start trusting your opinion a bit better. So we all can. If it hits a nerve then get over it. I said I was trying to help and I don't mean just you.

@Xily @joshphillips My point being and if you look at most of what his replies here have been they say "we" and that means that instead of him taking responsibility as the reviewer he is simply putting his opionion on top of Gamespot as a whole.

The atrocious TMNT Re Shelled gets a 5.5 ( I'm a TMNT freak btw ) and the same with Double Dragon Neon getting a 7.0, but this gets a 4.5? I guess if it had online mp it would have scored higher huh? I guess if they ever remaster Chip N Dales Rescue rangers we'll find out.

@TomMcShea @joshphillips I understand the difference and that's why I only mentioned the new gameplay mechanics and bonus material. I also understand Gamespots standards and even though it's not my say I believe those standards should not include remakes or remasters. Having a game like this reviewed based on todays standards when both the source material and the people mostly playing it are the ones who played the original is in my opinion not fair to the game, developer, auidence playing it.

I have only one question left if you can humor me I would greatly appreciate it. I played the game through and through on pc and after dying a few times by falling in a hole I can't remember having to start the entire level over. Were you talking about losing all your lives and starting over? I just want to make sure it's not different on pc than it is on consoles so I know we are playing the same game.

@TomMcShea @joshphillips

@TomMcShea @joshphillips Ahhhh I understand, but in my opinion I don't agree with a few things you've said. Again only trying to help here. While I agree games should be judged on their own merits this game like all HD remakes are a remake not an original title and they should be reviewed accordingly in favor of the people that have played the original. When a person sees remastered or HD remake they think of the original correct? I spent two hours this morning playing the original version next to the remastered version and guess which one was more flawed? The original.

The controls were tougher with having to press down on the dpad ever time you wanted to bounce on the cane. You had less lives and health plus there was no map like the remastered version has. So the original seemed more frustrating and challenging. Also there were no rewards in the game for collecting money. The new version lets you swim in it and use it to buy art work.

I don't mean to sound harsh and I know I'm not the reviewer here. Tom it just feels like you didn't even play the original before you reviewed the remastered version or you might have had a few more good things to say about it. That and you blasted Wayforward for focusing on the wrong things when in my opinion what they added to game made it worth more for the money. I want to give you the benefit of the doubt here, but your score in the review seems unvalidated.
