Also, some external drives want more power than the PS3 USB ports put out, so if you're buying one, either try it out first or buy one with an external power supply option. Oddly enough, I put the 60GB I removed from my PS3 in an external enclosure and it won't work, though the 160GB drive I ultimately put in the PS3 works just fine.

Just FYI...if you're an experienced Linux user then any PPC compatible flavor is fine, but if you're a newbie, I'd think long and hard about choosing Yellow Dog instead. Version 6.1 was just released and adds several new features designed specifically for the PS3. Overall, installation and configuration is just much easier for a new user.

Otherwise, yeah, start Googling, you'll find what you're looking for whether you stick with Ubuntu or switch to YDL.

*Online gameplay is only available for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system and Wii and may require an additional subscription.

Careful how you read that folks, it says that online is available ONLY on the 360, PS3, and Wii (not the PS2, in other words) AND may require an additional subscription, meaning if they do it to one system they'll likely do it to all!

I had the same problem before the 1.8 update actually. What kind of TV do you have? My issue was with a JVC...

My guess is that you have the audio settings for HDMI out for the PS3 set to "PCM". The PS3 is automatically converting to whatever it believes your receiver supports, which may be defaulting to 2 Channel 48Khz Linear PCM. Try changing the setting from "PCM" to "Bitstream" and see if that helps. Good luck!

I would go for the Linksys router. For $49.99, it's a decent router with all the necessary basic features, and it's plenty fast enough for most applications.

The big advantage there is that there are tons of posts (like these!) on configuring these units to best work with the PS3.

Are you connected to your receiver with an optical digital cable? You might try going into the audio options on the PS3 and changing the optical out to "bitstream" and let your receiver do the decoding.

You know, stuff like this proves that a great many teenage and younger gamers are not mature enough to handle the content of games like GTA IV.

spoiler!!!

FFVII had some great emotional moments, and Crisis Core is true to that characteristic. After Zack defeats Angeal in the bathhouse, and he is sobbing in the church while Aerith is talking...very artfully done. IMO, Crisis Core is one of the best directed, artistic executions of story telling in a video game I've encountered to date. Here's hoping this is a prelude to FFXIII.
