Infinity and the 4th dimension

This came up on one of the unions I am on. I am looking for someone to discuss the concept of infinity with. Either that or I could go for a discussion on the 4th dimension. If you are interested, simply post and I will answer it back.

Infinity: Just try to imagine no time first... that is the first step...

4th dimension: See how 1-D translates into 2-D and 2-D to 3-D in order to get a visual of 4-D... if you can ;).

50-50 Problem... and solution: Coin Theory

The Coin Theory is a theory I created (someone else may have come up with it before me, but I do not know of any similar theories) for those who are facing a two-choice problem in which they cannot make up their mind on which choice to pick.

If you are facing a 50-50 question between choice A and choice B, here is a simple solution: flip a coin up in the air. No, that is not all there is to it...

While the coin is in the air, decide a side to represent choice A and one to be B. Even before it lands, you should feel a pull in your head as to which you want to win. Once you catch it, flip it over onto your other hand to reveal the result (like you would normally do). As soon as it reveals, one of the three will always come true, deciding which choice to pick (if you felt the ping as it was flipping, you already know which choice you want):

1. You may feel a slight bit of disappointment, wishing that the other side had come up. If this is the case, pick the other choice as that is the one you truly want.
2. You may feel a slight bit of relief. This means the up side is the one you truly want.
3. You didn't feel anything (were you seriously focusing on the reveal?). Then, simply pick whatever is up for you truly don't care.

The only options possible are those three, so this is guarenteed to work (not really, but I have yet to meet someone who it has not worked for). If you have more that 2 choices, you can either A: do two or more flips or B: use the same strategy with a die (or dice for 7-11 possibilities). Any way you do it, if you are focusing on the initial reaction when the result is uncovered, you should be able to come up with the solution.

I hope this helps for your future decisions. Thanks for reading it!

Over 2000 posts

I have now posted over 2000 posts on forums. That's all this blog was about. Actually, it's not. I was wondering if there is somewhere that one can see the number of blog comments (not blog posts) as my guess puts it at about 400.

Unions...

I may not be on a very large amount of unions, but the ones I am on, I post enough to gain officership status on. The only two active ones that I am not an officer on are The Game Developers Universe (in which, I have been somewhat asked to be an officer in, which I will now accept since I have submitted the necessary idea) and The Writers' Lounge (which is my least-active of my active unions). Keeping up with everything is tough, but I am managing somehow managing (holding down a part-time and full-time job while I am at it, not to mention entering college as a junior by credits (I am a graduating high school senior)... :D).

In the midst of this craziness, I have been acting as an ambassador for unions, sending out invites (some to gamespot staff!) and corresponding for unions. I prefer to send out personalized invitations instead of just sending out blank ones, which adds to the needed time.

Speaking of invitations, I am especially interested for people to join the Game Development Union and/or the G1 Horse Racing Union. Both of which I will be leaders in (assuming the startup to the G1 goes smoothly).

Anyways, this was my second rant...

Want Comments? Just ask.

I have been getting several people asking me to look at their work and tell them my opinion of it. I try to be nice, but I also am honest. So, if you want someone to post comments on something of yours, simply ask and I will do so.

New Banners and other graphics

So what do you think of my new profile banner? Thanks to STKR for creating it! Can you tell what my two favorite platformers are? :D

I would also like to point out my union's new graphics, be sure to check them out (courtesy of MadeInFinland)!

I think more of my graphics will be changing soon, so be sure to keep an eye out. ;)

New Union!

So you were intrigued by my topic line? No? Oh, well; you're reading this anyways :).

The union is going to be the Game Development Union. The ultimate goal is create a fully-functional game. All ideas for stories, how to do things, etc., etc. will be accepted. This is NOT a union that I put together so others could do my work after I did the fun part of coming up with the story. If you are interested, please post a comment saying so. Union invites go out Thursday night or on Friday!

BTW, ignore the below blog. My union ratings have already changed (DS Playa moved up several slots (also I am now an officer) and three others take up the bottom three slots, and more changes...).

My Unions, including the Game Development Union

So what is the Game Development Union? It is a union I am trying to form. The union will have the ultimate goal of trying to create our own fully-functional video game. And, I need everyone to join. There is something here for everyone, especially those into programming, writing, graphics, sound, etc. Even if you are not into those things, your opinion on game ideas and on the game itself (when it's in development) will be helpful. So join!

As for my other unions, here are all of my active ones (that I post on):
[The Game Development Union (LEADER)]
Family Friendly Gaming Union (OFFICER)
NiGHTS Union (CHARTER OFFICER)
Writers' Lounge (recruit)
Christian Political Party Union (OFFICER)
The Hedgehog Union (OFFICER)
All Things Sega Union (OFFICER)
DS Playas Union (recruit)

Do you notice a pattern? :D. Also, I joined the DS Playas Union only yesterday and the Writers' Lounge just a week or two ago. Anyways, I know you can see this information on the one page. I just thought it would be interesting to see the list prioritized by myself, in order of my activity on and interest in the unions.

The Dreamer - Supplemental - Brandon's Beginning

I had to write a 750 word essay for a union competition, so here is what I wrote for it (647 words):

THE DREAMER - SUPPLEMENTAL: BRANDON'S BEGINNINGS

Brandon wandered into the canyon maze in the dead of night. It seemed perfectly empty and impressively quiet.

This was not Brandon's first visit to the canyon. In fact, he went almost every night in order to get away. He had lost everything; his mother, his father, and even his girlfriend, Kelly, were all gone, killed in a fire a month ago. Their screams still echoed in his mind. That was why he welcomed the loneliness of the high walls, where the only person he had to worry about was himself.

This night was different. Brandon was not alone. Betwixt the shadows a dragon was sleeping. Unaware of his company, Brandon sat down on his normal spot to watch the stars. Soon, he too fell asleep.

When he woke up, Brandon realized he had been out for the entire night. Thus, he ran the few miles back to his house. Already, people were up and wandering about. Even Ted and Janet, Brandon's adoptive parents, were awake. However, no one seemed to notice or care that he was missing... or that he had even existed.

Infuriated, Brandon snuck into his room, grabbed a few personal belongings, and left the house for good. From that point on, Brandon decided that he would live as a hobo, moving about from place to place, with no roots to tie him down or people to become close with.

For the next eight months, Brandon traveled around to different villages and towns, asking the residents for a trade: hard work in exchange for a place to stay. He would do nearly anything for anyone, as long as it was upright. Because of this, Brandon had been on a number of adventures, from learning how to cook and clean to taking down a large group of bandits single-handedly. However, he had never attempted his current assignment.

Brandon walked into the forest, with bow in hand and his sword at his side. It was not hard to follow the trail of blood as he weaved deeper into the canopy of trees. After walking for almost a half an hour, Brandon reached a small clearing. Peering around a tree, he saw the dragon with its victim.

This dragon was his mission.

By the time the dragon spotted him, Brandon had unleashed four arrows directly at the dragon's snout. However, that was just a diversion. As soon as the dragon raised itself up on its back legs, ready to pounce, Brandon leaped forward and drove his sword into its belly. The dragon moaned as it fell on its side.

With the dragon lying beside him, Brandon looked over at its victim. The villagers had told him that the dragon had been taking people from the village to eat. However, when Brandon looked over, he saw that the victim had been a mere chicken, stolen from one of the farmers.

It was now that Brandon realized the dragon was still alive. Instead of finishing his job, Brandon decided to aid the dragon that he had wrongfully injured, applying pressure on the wound to slow the bleeding.

Unaware that Brandon was trying to help him, the dragon fought back. However, with the loss of blood, he could not struggle with much might. Brandon held on for almost an hour before letting go. Now that the bleeding had stopped, he turned to leave.

Before he left, the dragon turned around to see the face of this strange teenager. The recognition was almost immediate, for on the morning of Brandon's departure, this dragon had been the one in the canyon.

Peering back one last time, Brandon saw that the dragon had turned and sat down so that his side was to Brandon. Having seen this on one of his adventures, Brandon knew what this movement symbolized; the dragon was inviting Brandon to ride him.

A second later Brandon walked away alone.

L Button

Finally! My L button on my DS is working again!

I forget how long it has been since it last worked. I was playing Mario Kart DS a lot, and all of those items did that button in. Now, many months later (no, I never stopped playing my DS (the normal way to cure shoulder button problems)), it is working again. I was amazed during that time of how much I rely on the L button. All three major DS games I play use it. Mario Kart DS needs it for items (X is terribly hard to hold onto for holding a shell behind you). Spyro: A New Beginning uses it for targeting, so not having it truly made the game a challenge while updating my guide for the game. And, Advance Wars: Dual Strike uses it to see if there are any unmoved units. Needless to say, I hope to loose fewer units now on those larger maps.

Anyways, that was my version of a rant. Hope you enjoyed it ;).
