If you're talking about "upscaling" DvD I dunno... I mean... with my DvD player all my DvDs would run pretty bad on my 46" Sharp Aquos... This night (my first day with the PS3) they were like heaven... "FF: Advent Children" even runs at full screen... Dunno if it's 'cause now the PS3 upscale or the HDMI connection already works better, but they all look really great also on a big screen... Think that "FF: AC", when I tried on that previous reader, it was almost unwatchable in 4:3 and this says a lot...BViking78
The HDMI connection is the logical answer here, we have already established that the PS3 does NOT upconvert DVDs as of yet.
[QUOTE="justinblair2"]Much thanks, i just got my ps3 like 2 nights ago and that was one of the first things i've noticed.. Thant and the fact that it downconverts to 720P when playing games TimothyB
Â
It doesn't downconvert to 720p when playing games, it's just a lot of game are 720p only and switches to that resolution from whatever the menu was running at, which is often 1080i or 1080p since the PS3 will default to the highest and all 720p tvs support 1080i input.Â
1080I or P for that matter is a higher resolution that 720P, thus the PS3 is down converting the signal being sent to my tv, hence the flicker that i get when starting a game. All im saying is that its really annoying. I do understand that the games are made in 720P natively but it would be nice to let them play in 1080I like the 360. This problem doesnt really affect me all that much but just irritating but for the ppl that has older HDTV that only do 1080I and 480P this would be a bit of a problem because the games wont run in 1080I they get down converted to 480P, unless they support 720 input
