I dont really think you can compare Hitman to Tomb raider, and it is by no means considered an adventure game. Hitman is more of an action/steath-emup/shooter (depending on your play style).
I have to say though, the REAL tomb raider games, i.e., not the angel of darkness and the newer ones which are more focused on action, are not over-rated really, i think they are at about their right level of rating, so to speak.
To me, the most over rated games in all of history are every one of the Halo games, people seem to think that it is the god of all games and that nothing will ever beat it, and then base everything on halo and believe that all its generic elements that are in every other shooter are 'unique' and critisise all other shooters for having them.
I can think of fps's from at least 10 years ago that beat halo hands down.
and before anyone cares to call me a fanboy of any kind, i own all 3 of the current gen consoles (wii, ps3, 360) and a top range pc, so I dont limit my self, plus i have completed all 3 halo's.
Though one thing i can say is that it has ok multiplayer for a console, though its one HUGE feature seems to be matchmaking, which is basically just a random map feature that has been done before.
i'll be getting this tonight, so if you fancy a newbie vs newbie game just ask, I'll add you, as i cant remember my PSN id atm
The soldier of fortune series, hands down, most gory FPS ever....
If you want to satisfy violent tendencies, then that game will do it twice over!
Not a bad game either!
Well, if you have Half Life 2, Definately get Insurgency, its the best mod out at the moment IMO, and you get to kill Insurgents!
Also, the COD4 demo fits the space too!
Bits of Nail and Iron Fillings in a flapjack at high school.....
I'd ate most of the Flapjack too, was not impressed and went back to tell them, and they didnt care at all and just offered my another Flapjack!
As if i'd take ANOTHER!
Since when is 52 Old!?
You canneverbe too old for gaming! Andoh my do you have some great choices!
Now, i wouldnt exactly recommend Counter Strike to start off in, as being a new player in that can be VERY frustrating. Now, with Call of Duty having an excellent multiplayer component, and with the 4th installment coming out in november, AND With a demo out now, i can wholely recommend that as a great shooter that will provide a good level of play and fantastic multiplayer for you to learn off.
There is also the battlefield series, from which I would really recommend Battlefield:2142 (demo also available), this game offers more squad based gameplay of a larger scale than Call of Duty, but is rather easy learn, and you gain experience points from playing games, which you can use for unlocks such as new weapons etc...
Team Fortress 2 - This is, in my honest opinion, the BEST class based online shooter ever made, it is just fantastic in everyway, Gameplay, Graphics, Sound, Animation, Balancing, Humour, and i could go on....It just does EVERYTHING right in my opinion and you cannot go wrong in this... I have friends that dont exactly play FPS's a lot, but after a few hours in this, they all love it and are getting better and better, its just so easy to pick up, yet there is that kind of depth to it that you wont learn right away, but you will pick up on as you play it.....this would be your best bet to be honest...
Those are justThree of many, but they are both from a well developed line of games, both wit
h a very large fanbase and have proven the test of time.
If you want some single player games to get your barings in first, or just for genral gaming then i would recommend trying the following...
F.E.A.R - A Fantastic single player experience that will grab you and once it does you wont want it to let go till its finished
Call of Duty 2 - again, i mentioned CoD4 above instead as WW2 shooters are becomming very generic, but CoD2 is one of, if not THE best one
No One Lives Forever 1 + 2 - FANTASTIC Shooters that often go overlooked, the First one may have slightly dated graphics now, but it still plays great, with a good sence of humour that goes with its 60s Spy style, and a funny storyline. A MUST!
Just another short list i know, but i dont want to go and list every decent FPS, only the BEST.....well, in my opinion at least
To Be frank, i would say to go and buy the Orange box RIGHT NOW off steam, because you will not Regret it, 5 of the best games made, 3 of which are from the Arguably one of the Best Game series of all time on PC, 1 of which is One of (IMO) the best class based shooter ever made, and you also get Portal, which is a quirky little FPS puzzle game, with great gameplay, some good puzzles and fantastic Humour.....
[QUOTE="Litchie"][QUOTE="zero9167"] my pc is totally f'ed up right now and i can't play this or the UT3 demo :(jamserver
UT3 demo? When's that coming?
lol what?......what demo u gotta be kidding me its out?
Its not out, just available to reserve on Fileplanet....
That does suck, because the beta is quite good, but you should really read the file information before you download ANY beta off fileplanet, as the crysis one clearly states (and i quote);
' The beta event for Crysis has begun. Keys will be delivered in batches over the next few weeks. Check in here for information on upcoming key releases.'
beta's almost always have some kind of registration, and at fileplanet the bigger ones are often Subscriber Exclusive...
