... and kudos to your parents for not being dumb enough to buy you gta3 and such as a 12 year old, if we only had more parents like yours we'd have alot less grief over the industry.

craigalan23

I got GTA3 when i was young and i turned out well. I think parents should ultimately spend time with their children and see if they can handle such things. Of course if the child screams cuss words, acts like the game makes him want to really hurt people,or seems to be suffering from some mental disorder take it away. I've played many violent games as a child but i don't cuss randomly at people,go psycho with rage,or think that real violence/death is amusing.

I'm certain most people on this forum have bought/received games that weren't appropriate for their age. Though if the parent says no you should respect them i'm lucky to have parents that know i'm able to handle virtual violence.

My parents hardly bought me video games anyway. If you're 15 get a job then you can BUY the game yourself, like I had to do if I wanted things my parents didn't want me to have. I guess the age ratings are a lot different than 10 years ago when I was a teenager. I could buy M rated games all the time.

No because when they finally had competition (NFL 2k series) they bought the rights to the NFL teams so they could produce mediocre games and still cash in! I just wish the NFL (players association) hadn't sold them exclusive rights. When those two games (Madden and 2K) actually faced off against each other I really thought the 2k series was starting to become the better game. I really hate when there are 2 players on a local machine where the play is shown to the other user. I liked it when there were three plays b/c the other user would know your formation but would have to guess your play. One more thing...their servers are junk that's why I refuse to buy an EA game for multiplayer. Enough ranting....

NICE!
[QUOTE="APOLLOCJD"]

... By doing that it allows players to restrict people based on their age which is something our society frowns upon. ...

mjpatrick

Frowns upon, eh?

Age to drive (not counting farm license, etc) = 16

Age to see R rated movie without parental guidance = 17

Age to vote = 18

Age to drink = 21

Age to rent a car / hotel room = 25

Age to be President = 35

Age up to which you can work in the Federal Bureau of Prisons = 55 (or so)

Age to be named on the Smucker's B-Day list on the Today Show = 100

Society puts age restrictions on a plethora of activities. Some of them are enforced more than others, but restriction based on age is commonplace.

Good point, but most parents don't even know that is an option.
I think that you could cut down on the kids playing M rated games if parents just used the parental control on the 360. You can make it so you cannot play anything without a code if you wanted. Just make it so they can play everything but M rated games and then only let them play the ones you think are ok. That way even if they have a friend get them the game they still have to get permission from there parents to play it.LeviLRP

I wasn't born yesterday. I'm just saying it would be tougher to access.

[QUOTE="kickthecann82"]sure there is...it's called checking ID's before a game is bought....ever heard of beer/cigarette sales? Even though if you're underage you could still get access to it, I think that would clean up a lot of the M rated games.LeviLRP

Ya because there are not any underage kids that drink and smoke. You do know that most people that smoke started when they were under 18 right.

That's why I edited my post...b/c sure you can get access. But it would be harder if there has to be an ID shown. Because most parents if they're asked for an ID will then question why are they asking for my ID?

A kid can get an M rated game if there parent is there with them. Or like has been done for years there parent goes to the store and gets it for them. Not that hard.

I just wish they would come down harder on the M rating. That way I don't have to deal with little kids that shouldn't be playing the game anyway.
