Most ports look about as good in vanilla, that's true. There is a solid reason for that, though. However, rendering distances, load times, and AA is still better.
Wouldn't claim it costs a $1,000 though, I could build 1 under that, and it'd still push more power than a PS3 and 360 combined.
That said, a lot of games get ported these days, and can be played with a controller via plug and play. Also, PC games can and do often have mods. TeS games are very notorious for this, but it applies to other games, too. Check out /watch?v=OBw0R1AUU64 on Youtube and compare that to vanilla. Plus all the additional cars, boats, etc.
Thousands of dollars to set up? Where have you been getting your information? I could build my computer for well under a grand and it's still more powerful overall than a 360 and PS3 combined.
@MVan86 I think the Xbox conroller (smaller version) was better than the 360 controller. The button placements are fine, but the 360 analog sticks are a touch too stiff with an awkward dead zone. For example, slip in your Halo 2 disk and start up the game. When you're in, swirl your analog stick in a circle and see if your aiming rectacle swirls in a small circle.
I can tell you already, it won't. It's jerky and thus less fluent and more difficult on precision aiming (not saying it's extremely hard or impossible, but more difficult). The original Xbox controller would swirl in a circle quite well. It was great for competitive gaming.. I played Halo 2 competitively when I was a yonger lad, and I recall getting a 360 whilst I still participated in the events. However, my playing level decreased by too large of margin when on the 360, so I kept my original Xbox (just for Halo 2 scrims, etc) for a few more years...
Also, the D-Pad on the 360 controller feel worse than the directional pad on a SNES controller. That should be addressed as well...
Other than that, yeah, I like the 360 controller more than the PS3 one.
I can understand your sentiments on the basis of believing their is still "life" in this system. But you do realize that the Xbox 360 has been on the shelves, without a successor, longer than the Xbox, Playstation, or Playstation 2 was?
That said, I'm sure you have nothing to worry about, for at least a couple more years.
Bethesda Game Studios made those games, Zenimark Online Studios has been making this one, and the 2 development crews aren't related. Two seperate teams.
