5 Sci-Fi Flicks...

5. They Live (1988): John Carpenter's film, starred Rowdie Roddie the WWF wrestler, and had him hitch hicking to a city with strange happenings...

He get's a job at a construction site, and stays at a refugee camp at night, ending up stumbling across a box of sun glasses, that when put on shows everything in black and white, but when he looks at certain people they have no face. The character Rowdie play's, largely influenced, Duke Nukem.

4. Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back (1980): Wow, wow! what a film. This is one hell of a sequel. Considered to be the best Star Wars, and in my eye's it's correct. It had it all: love, quest, action, drama, laughter. It is the perfect SW film, and nothing has topped it. One hell of a plot twist at the end, and one of the first filmd (if not the first film) to end unconcluded. Let me tell you, if you haven't seen the original films anyway (for shame!) then get this one watched, because it's epic! :D

3. The Matrix (1999): I don't need to tell you what the Matrix is about, because you propably already know, but for those of you who don't know what it was about i'll giveyou a quick synoposis.

The Matrix is about a computer-generated world known asthe 'Matrix'. The 'real' world has been taken over by machines and they created the Matrix as a form of control in order to grow human's and use them as a form of energy. There are human's that are set free, and are trying to get the rest of humanity free from the Matrix. It has a wicked cool black guy known as,Morpheus looking for 'the one' who will setfree all the minds trapped in the Matrix, and end the war. Still with me? lol

This film is responsible for all the last decades cheesey OTT slo-mo and leather jackets: It had insane special-fx, a brilliantly told story and it was one cool cucumber.

2. Aliens (1986): Aliens is James Cameron's master piece. Set about a 100 years or so, after the first film. Rippley is sent back on the planet that had the Alien life form on. Rippley is reluctant to go back to the planet, butdecides to go in order to rid her constant nightmares.

The first film was an amazing Sci-fi/horror, this one was an all out guns blazing sci-fi/action film. With an all out cast of charismatic characters and a brilliant script. this is one of my favourite sci-fi films ever.

1. Terminator 2 (1991): Terminator 2, another Cameron master-piece. Again, from sci-fi/horror to sci-fi/action. The twist to this film was that the Terminator was actually sent to protect John instead of killing him, and in replace of the Terminator was the upgrade known as the T-1000, who was very scary, indeed.

One hell of a film, with an eye watering ending, the newer films haven't even been able to scratch a little bit of greatness this film had. Essential watch.

Next up is, 5 world cinema films. :D

5 action flicks...

Im going to do a blog every now and then, on 5 films of a certain genre that has blow me away. To start with im going to do an easy genre which is action. Hope you like.

5. A better Tomorrow. (1986): This is when John Woo was at his peak of greatness. Its a story about 2 friends in the counterfeit market, making million's, and having the time of there lives. It all goes wrong when there set up, and one of them has to go down for it. It's a brilliant action film, with a great story.

4. Taken (2008): You don't get much more simple than this. Liam neeson's character, Bryan's daughter get's kidnapped in a european traffiking organization. Bryan being ex-special forces, sets out to kick ass. Simple, short and very entertaining.

3. Commando (1985): This film is pure gold. Arnie's daughter gets kidnapped by an old friend, and Arnie is forced to do what his old partner tell's him to do, or she'll die. He doesn't do what he's told, and does what he does best; blow's sh*t up. I can't tell you guy's how many times me and my mates have quoted this film p*ssed up, haha.Pure cheese.

2. Rambo (1982): An absolute ****c. Sly's best i think. Playing the character John Rambo; and ex-Nam vet. He set's out after his last tour, to find his old friend. After finding out he died, he teeter's over the edge of madness. On his way threw a town a sheriff begin's to give him some stick, sending him crazy and on the loose in the wood's as he is hunted. (note: the other two films are sh*t and should be avoided. 2008 filmwas ok though...)

1. Face Off (1997): John Woo's first american made film i think, and what a film it was. John Travolta and Nicolas Cage, star in this action film witha twist. Cage's character gets arrested after a long line of crimes. After being arrested, he then threaten's; theres a huge bomb set to go off in the city. The only way to find out where the bombis, isfor John Travolta to go under cover...Using Cages face. Genius.

And there we have it. Hope you liked the list. Im going to be doing 5 sci-fi movies next. :)

10 Albums that changed my life.

This is my list of 10 albums that have changed they way i think of music. I hope you guys like. :) (unfortunately it wont let me post pics!! dont know why :( so it'll have to do without.

At the Drive-in: Relationshipof command.Cedric and Omars first band. They were an alt, punk band, with a twist. The first couple of albums were an aquired taste. This is there 'Dark side of the moon' album. Supurb songs like One armed Scissors andacrobatic tenement. It would have been interesting to see where they would have gone, If they never moved on to make, The Mars Volta.

Tool: Lataralus. This is probably one of my favourite albums of all time. Tool really are an amazing band. This album never gets old. Sharp anddifferent bass riffs, out of this world drumming and some werid guitar nosies, sent this band to ultimate stardum. This album wasn't quite as heavy as the others, but the tone it set was unpresidented. Epic.

Breaking Benjamin: Saturate. BB's first album. If you listen to there new stuff, its a completely different sound to what they were with this. Sounding alot more grunge and raw, with random lyrics. Most BB fans who have been there since the beginning will agree, this is by far there best album.

Billy Talent: Billy Talent. A great Canadian Punk band. Fast complex guitar riffs, with a really different singing voice, Billy Talent are one of the sharpest tools in the shed. There last album was a total wash-out. But this album hit everyones buttons. Sounding good for the radio and still keeping with the underground kids. If your looking for a good punk album, look no further.

The Mars Volta: Frances the Mute. Not to everyone's taste, but this is my favourite Volta album. Alot of the album has alot of slow jamming noises, but when it kicked in with the song, it would blow your ears off.

Dir En Grey: Kisou. A brilliant Japanese Industrial metal band. They've come along way from there glam look when they first started. This album is where they started taking a darker side to there sound. I absolutely love the bass playing in this album (probably why its my favourite Grey album). There's a great mix of songs, thats alot easier to swollow if your a first time listener.

Nirvana: In utero. Nirvana's last album, before there untimely end. It strayed away from there, Nevermind sound. And went for a more in the direction of,Sonic Youth. Heart Shaped-box, was the selling point of the album for me,

Rammstein: Reise, Reise. Most consider, Mutterto be the best album. But i found a better sound on this album. With songs like, Mein teil. About a guy eating someone, what more could you want from an album? lol

Queens Of The Stone Age: Songs for the deaf. They've never been as good since, Josh kicked out the original bassist. This was the last album the orginal bassist did, and it also sent QOTSA to the top. In an ironic way also, because the title of the album was about there songs not hitting the radio. And this album did just that. Anyone who hasn't heard, No One Know's must have been under a rock.

Propagandhi: Today's Empire, Tomorrow's ashes. Another canadian Punk band. This band are as heavy as punk gets, with some of the sickest guitar i've ever heard. If your thinking of listening to them, just listen to 'Purina Hall of fame'. Just for the face melting solo.

Help, with No Mercy!

Hey, guys. Im writing this blog to all the gamers, that play Punisher: No Mercy. I bought the game when it was first released. And it has steadily been lost, andno one plays it anymore, (given, since it isto anaquired taste, but im a hardcore Punisher fan, and have tried to stick with it).Soi recently went on Zen Studio's, forum. And there was a guy who wrote a blog about gathering people that still play the game, to join together and have fun with the game. After that blog i've found several players, and have been having a great time on it. So if there is anyone left who likes the game, but cant get to play online, because no ones on there; Add me, or go on Zen forum, and add some people on there.

Add me: Wigan-rl

Cheers guys.

Groundbreaking games of the last decade.

Its now 2010, we've had alot of games come out in the last 10 years. I thought i'd do my top 10 list of the most inventive, groundbreaking games, of the last decade. This is in no particular order, its just 10 really awesome games.

10. Gears of War, Xbox-360 (2007.): It was the game that made every other game of the past 2 years, use the cover system in action games. This baby used the cover, shoot system all the way threw the game, and it worked an absolute treat. Not too mention its gorgeous graphics.

9. Fahrenheit, PS2 & Xbox (2005): This game was something else entirely. You played as both, the killer and cop, in this cat and mouse game. Using nothing but both analouges to get threw the game. Not to mention this had a brilliant story.

8. Zelda: The Wind Waker, Gamecube (2003): Not only is this one of the best Zelda games ever made, it was also one of the best looking. Ninty took a risk with the way it looked, after everyone fell in love with OOT, and ended up splitting the fan base. While it was a short and easy adventure every single thing about was amazingly fun.

7. The Orange Box, PS3, Xbox-360 (2007): I was going to put just Half Life 2 down, but whats the point when the Orange box was near perfect in its own right. 5 seperate games in one box. Half Life 2 is an essential shooter that had a gripping story with some revolutionary games physics. If your an FPS fan buy this now, as it had HL2, HL2: ep 1,2, and the really really good Portal game.

6. Shenmue 2, Dreamcast (2001): It was the most expensive game ever made at the time, and was an absolute belta. Pitting you in a living, breathing world. You set out in search of revenge for the death of your father. Revolutionary for graphics, gameplay, and how a story should be. Epic stuff.

5. Metal Gear Solid 4, PS3 (2008): Its a tuff one, because MGS 2, 3, and 4 have been out in one decade, so its hard to choose. But this is the one that actually pushed the PS3 to some of its insane graphical capability. It took Snake's character and s*** all over him, and it wrapped up the mind bending story. Not to mention it included a supurb online mode at no extra charge.

4. Shadow of Colossus, PS2 (2006): 20 bosses, 20 very very different bosses. One sad story, and graphics that almost burned the PS2 out. And we have here one of the most beautiful games ever made.

3. Resident Evil 4, Gamecube (2005): This took the horror genre and tipped it on its head. You know when Shinji gets involved, its going to be something special. Gone were the cheap scares, zombies, and fixed camera's. And in came the over the shoulder camera, fast moving possesed humans, bombarding you from every corner. This game could scare any hardened horror fan.

2. Diablo II, PC (2001): The first game wasnt to everyones taste (mainly due to its rather due dungeons). But a good point and click game all the same. But the second one was better in every way shape and form. It was bigger, you had a much wider variety on characters, spells etc. It also had, brilliant 4 player co-op. If your a fan of this sort of genre, get this played before Diablo III comes out.

1. Max Payne, PC (2001): Mind blowing graphics. An original, well told story. And what everyone was dying to try out at the time. Slow motion, This game blew the doors off on everything we thought we knew in the world of gaming. Just about every action/shooter game of the last 6 years will have used Max Payne as an influence.

There you have it. If theres any you think should of been on there tell me. I like a good banter. lol :P

Rage Against The Machine.

Ok, for all those who live in the UK, youwill probably know about the campaign to stop Simon Cowell on his quest ofgetting his s*** new singer at the Xmas no.1 spot. The challenger to do this is none other than RATM- Killing in the name. Now i've spread the word as much as i can, but i've come to you guys now to help us out. Even if your not a fan of RATM, you've got to give the campaign credit. So for 99p go onto play.com, itunes or amazon, and buy it before the week is out. :)

In other news, im rather disappointed by the lack of games this festive season. I've resorted in playing Resi 5 on hard *sigh* ahh well there'll be a fare few games out in the coming months :)

The rant.

Its amazing isnt it? I'd havebet my house in a bet that Link, or Snake, would have won the Greatest hero of all time place. But what has amazed me more, isn't even that Snake didn't even make it to the semi final. Its not even that Link lost the semi final. It isn't even the predictability that mario is in the final, its who Mario is up against.

Yes i talk about Gordon Freeman, the lead character in what is one of the greatest FPS games of all time. So he's in one of the finest games ever made, but is the actual character actually worth winning? In an answer for me its a no. The reason? Well he isn't a very good character, he doesn't say out, he doesn't have anything that gives him any special charisma, or makes him stand out from the other entrys. He is in a sence just you. Is that worth winning?

Its left me in awe actually, due to the fact that there is some really good characters that were in that line up. And half of them dont even make it out of the first, or second round. So its left me in two frame of minds. The first being that half of the people voting for this thing are 12 years of age, and are voting the oppositejust to piss people off: a perfect example of this is Halo's Master Chief. Im not a Halo freak so dont judge me, but anyone gamer would know he deserved better. He got his ass voted out in the first round by Characters Bub & Bob. Come on people, In a sane world he should have got off the first stepping stone. The second frame of mind is im just being paranoid and im just really suprised by the outcome, let me know your opinions either way.

On another note i've been playing Ultimate Alliance 2 since its release, and have gotta say im a little disappointed by it. Production has gone right up, but they've watered half the gameplay down. Im really enjoying Wolfenstein too, which is a suprise since i hate WWII games, but i loved the original so i had to give it a try. Shame the lead character is so generic lol. :)

Top 5 Horror games

There has been many survival horror games out there, many are clones copying off the true champs of the horror stage. Here i will show you but a few specialhorror games, that are close to my heart. And willhopefullymake you want to play themone day :).

Top 5 Horror games.

5. Blood Siren (PS3)

Blood siren is apparently a remake of the first game (i think its different in my eyes). What made this one different to the first two games, is that they removed most of the annoying niggles. Pitting you against a load of Shibito (possesed, zombie like enemies) with nothing but a torch, depending on what character you are. You played as several characters, from a cop to a child. It is a great game that can be quite disturbing.

4. Doom 3

Doom 3, i think this was the first FPS horror shooter, and if it wasn't it was damn sure the scariest of its time. Even today graphics looks supurb. It was dark, gritty, and made you feel very claustrophobic. For me this is the real deal, F.E.A.R was abit of a clone to this game. So if you like F.E.A.R you'll love this.

3. Call of Chthulu

Based on the H.P lovecraft novel, Call of Cthulu was something very different indeed. While that image above makes it look action related, it actually wasn't. The first half of the game is mainly about sneaking round uncovering the mystery of a fishing town. You didnt even get a gun till about 45% threw the game. This also had one of the most terrifying scenes i've ever played, which had you running away unarmed from a load of imbred fisherman. While this game isn't for everyone. It does have its problems but,if you after something different, look no further.

2. Silent Hill 2 (PS2)

If you've read my top 20 games, you'll know i love this game, with good reason too. It had the most complex and cleaver story than any other SH game. Disturbing monsters, and a rather odd hero. It took the first game and made it a whole other beast. Well worth your time and money.

1. Resident Evil 2. (PSone)

Ahh, you knew it was coming. Resident evil 2 is to date (for me anyway) the best survival horror game. It was the best sequel, it had the best story, and you were getting two games in one, in a sence.Completing the game as either Leon or Claire, unlocked scenario B. Which was say your playing asLeon first time round, you'd play as Claire and complete the other side of the story.Resi 4 might have been the horror game to re energize the genre but this is where it started.

Top 20 games ever made!

Ok so after looking at berkeley0's top 50 part one (great choice of games too!)it made me feel the urge to give out my top 20. So its short and sweet lol. Its my top 20 games of all time but i've give it a twist and put only one game per series just to make things harder for me lol. So hope you enjoy thisand hopefully agree with some of the gamesi've put up. :D

20. PIKMIN 2

Brief story.

Pikmin is one of the many brilliant games that came out of Shinji's mind. You play asthelittle space man Olimar. Who crash lands on an unknown planet, destroying his ship in the process. And ends up finding weird creatures known as Pikmin coming out of the ground to aid you on you quest to fix your ship.

Why was it good?

It took the formula of the first game and ironed out the minor bugs with the first game. Making this game one of the most recommended titles on the gamecube!

19. Robocop vs Terminator.

Brief Story:

You play as Robocop. Who goes about on his day to day chores, and happens to find Terminator's have come out of the woodwork to **** him up.

Why was it good?

It was emence when i was a boy, but its still held itself with the test of time! brutal killings when Robocops gun hit a goon and blood just goes everywhere. Graphics were really impressive. and you got to fight Ed along with an army of Terminators. What more could you want in a game?If you still have a megadrive get this bad boy found and fired up.

18. Mario Kart Wii

BriefStory:

Not much of a story, you just race round blasting people with shells!

Why was it good?

Mario Kart is not only the best familymultiplayer games ever. Its also one of the best games on the Wii! No one can tell you how satisfiying it is to come from 12th place to 1st in one swift move and watch you mates face drop. Priceless.

17. Zone of Enders: 2nd Runner

BriefStory:

You play as Dingo, who accidentally finds Jehuty and gets sucked into one big mess.

Why is it good?

Most people hear Hideo Kojima and think Metal Gear. But this game shows he isnt just a one trick pony. It had amazing graphics, a brilliant with strong characters to hold the story together. The gameplay had been pumped up to ten since the last game. It was faster and all round better than the first. If you want a supurb Mech game, look no further...

16. Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy)

Brief Story:

You play as lucas Kain, a normal guywho goes to a bar at night to get some tea.And before going homeends up killing a guy while being posessed. (what a bummer eh? lol)

Why was it good?

Its one of them unique games that does everything differently. It is more of an interactive movie/game using the analouges to do almost everything. The story for the first 3/4 of the game is absolutely gripping. While it slips at the end, it doesnt stop it from being one of the best games on PS2.

15. Sonic 2

Sonic_The_Hedgehog_2_Cover.jpg Sonic_The_Hedgehog_2_Cover image by petef201

BriefStory:

You play as Sonic once again trying to stop Dr Robotnik in his tracks. Adding Tails to spice things up.

Why was it good?

Its just about every 90's kids favourite blue hedgehog. What wasn't to like? you even got to face off with iconic enemy metal sonic on the last level. This is epic stuff if i ever saw it.

14. Yakuza

Brief Story:

Playing as honourable hero Kazuma Kiryu. You take the rap for a killing gone wrong to save a friend. Spending ten years in the slammer you come home to find things have changed frombad to worse.

Why was it good:

Now i dont know how people will take this one... I love this game, and its one of them ones not many people bought. But everything was there. it had a great (if a littlecliche at times)story. Good graphics, and it had a really unique change on surroundings. It had an awful lock-on system but you can look past it. And its the closest you getting to a Shenmue sequel...

13. Killer 7

BriefStory:

And a brief story at that. You play as a group of the 7world best hitmen. Been given the task of assasinatingseveral people.

Why was it good?

Unique isn't even the word for this game. If theres one thing Grasshopper studios know. Its how to mix things up. Everything from the controls to story were f***ed up (in a good way) with some of the best anime cut scenes ever!

12. Half Life 2

BriefStory:

Taking off from the first game playing as Gordon freeman. You set out on your quest for helping the rebels bring freedom back to City-17.

Why was it good?

It was an amazing game. The gameplay just showed you stuff you thought wasn't possible for a game. Great characters to relate too. Awesome weapons to choose from. This is one of them games you have to play!

11. Shadow of theColossus

BriefStory:

The story is a weird one.Our heroend up ina temple with his sick girlfriend,to hear a voice that tells you he can help your girlfriend if you destroy the Colossal beast roaming the land.

Why was it good?

It is a tear wrenchingbeautiful game. From the same guys who made ICO. Itpitted you against these giant beasts, each one was never the same as the last and required a diffrent way of thinking if you wished to defeat it. The game just consisted of 20 boss fights, which on paper sounds boring. But let me tell you now this is truly one of the best games i've ever played.

10. Gears of War 2

Brief Story:

Marcus and is band of boys are back to kick Locust ass in this amazing game that leads a few month after the events of the first game.and Dom is stillsearching for his wife...

Why is it good?

Takes everything the first game had going for it and made it a million times more fun. More Locust bigger guns and a story thatanswered a few questions and opened a few more up for further games. I dont need to tell you this is a 360 essential do i? because you've already got it.lol

9. Halo

Breif Story:

Playing as the last spartan alive. You help the humans win the war against the covernant.

Why was it good?

Dont think i need to tellyou why its good. Its today one of the greatest shooters in the history of gaming. Ironically the title has evolved in it. And thats just what this game did for FPS games. Supurb.

8. Silent Hill 2

Brief Story:

Henry finds himself at Silent Hill after getting a letter from his dead wife telling him to go there. (would you? No im with you on that one too)

Why was it good?

Scary as hell, with one hell of a storyline. This one is told far more differently than the others have been. It is one of the best games i own, period.

7. Max Payne 2

Breif Story:

Max goes back to the N.Y.P.D after the events of the first game. Somehow finding his way back in the hole he was in the last time.

Why was it so good?

Too many things to name. The story was just pure gold. The whole Noir feel to it was original in itself. And overall it just hasn't aged a day since its release. The third installment has alot to live upto...

6. GTA San Andreas

Brief Story:

A story from rags to riches. Playing as C.J coming home after many years, to go to the funeral of his mum.

Why was it good?

Where to start? i dont say games are perfect because i dont believe there is one. But this game has come damn close. Starting off with nothing and then 50 something hours later your king of the world. GTA 4 is a pile of S**** compared to this.

5. Goldeneye.

Brief Story:

Based on the James Bond movie Goldeneye.

Why is it good?

One of the few movie tie-in's to have come out good and proberbly the only tie-in game to hit 'Cult ****c'. Some of the best multiplayer made, andto put it simple no Goldeneye no Halo.

4. Majora's Mask

Brief Story:

Link finds himself in his darkest adventure yet. Skull kid finds the Majoras mask and ends up setting the moon to destroy the world in 3 days.

Why was it good?

Original, dark, and completly different from the other Zelda's. Giving you 3 days to save the world isn't going to be easy, and it wasn't. It was hard!. But when a game lets you play as a Gorgon, or a Zora you have to play it dont you?

3. Final Fantasy VIII

BriefStory:

Playing as Squall you get sent on one of the greatest love storys ever told. You'll see Squall open up to his new friends in 4 discs worth of how a story should be told.

Why is it good?

Best RPG ever made. It took the series in a different direction.it gave you some of the beststorytelling ever made with great graphics. And a different take on the combat system. Essential! it beats the crap out of most RPGs out today.

2. Metal Gear Solid

Brief Story:

Playing as legendary hard ass Solid Snake your sent on to shadow moses island to stop a Nuke firing Mech known asMetalGear and aguy who looks just likeSnake and is called Snake. Crazy!

Why is it good?

Its hard to pick a Metal Gear out, because there all amazing. But this is the game that startedthe craze off. Awesome graphics a supurb story with twists and turns everywhere. Every Character was told with pain stalking detail, and you fell in love with everyone.Hideo Kojima is a gaming creating god and this game shows why. If you haven't played it go put you head down in shame.

1. Shenmue II

Brief Story:

Taking right off from the first. Ryo ends up in Hong Kong on his quest for revenge fromLan Di killing your farther.

Why is it so good?

Thats right. This is my number one game of all time. I wanted both games in this top 20 because there both amazing. But this one takes away the little niggles in the first game. Every single thing about this game is epic. 4 discs of pure gaming pleasure at its best. Letting you do mini games on arcade machines, do part time jobs to earn money in your attempt to gain further in your quest for avenging your farthers death. I'd sell my soul for the third installment whichwill proberblynever happen. If you havent played this game, get a Dreamcast and buy it!! you wont regret it. Essential isn't even the word.

There you are. No massive description's on the games. But all the games there even if you dont agree with where there placed you cant deny they've either been awesome or changed the face of gaming forever.

Sony's gash network.

Ok. Been a while since ive put a blog up. But after my recent experience with the PSNetwork i feel a blog is in order. I got my PS3 online a couple of week ago, and have been on Metal gear Online.

To kick off, my expectations on the PS3 have been low. Minus a couple of awesome games like MGS4 and Killzone there really hasn't been out else the 360 hasn't done better. (For the record im not a Microsoft vet, i just speak the facts!).Anyway, so i've been playing MGOnline after a 2 day download update! and finallymanage to get it online. And its been the most fun i've had in a longtime with an online game.

I've been taking days off work to play it. So icome to it yesturday everything is going great untill the PSN decides to sign me out. Its ok because i was done with it for the day anyway.I come to it today got on it, about an hour into it, it signs me out again. Only this time it isn't letting me back on it just keeps saying "playstation network has timed out".

I've had a look at some forums and it seems the problem is quite a common one. Worse still is that people have been ringing Sony about the propblem and instead of saying the ovious, they blame it on there connection. Its worked for me and others all these days, week, monthswhatever, and decides at random not to work and the only answer you get off Sony is a pass of the book. Great. It also seems that there doesn't seem to be out happening with the problem.

So the conclusion is that Sony never seems to stop amazing me. With there poor update times, hardly any exclusives and a really crappy network it seems my time with Sony is coming to a close. Maybe if they sort there act out and pull there finger out there arse then respect could be given but at the moment im very annoyed.

On a Lighter note. Im going to see Transformers 2 tonight so i hope its good :)

Later peeps xxxx
