In Singapore, we have like four main races, and four main religions, Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam. And it's a public holiday for EVERYONE for each of their celebrations.
It's not really about celebrating something that is not based on your own religion and culture, it's about celebrating so that everyone can have fun, meanwhile accepting each others' religious and traditional views. I go to Xmas parties and Muslim gatherings hosted by my friends because we're friends. I don't follow those religions either. It's a great way to nurture cross-cultural understanding and friendship. :) Real friendship.
