We did a fresh install of windows on his computer a while back but it didn't seem to really help at all. As for disk check and defrag, we do it about once a week in the hope of it at least helping a little. I haven't tried the computer using only one RAM stick, I will take that suggestion into account.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

My younger brother's computer has always suffered from frequent hangs and freezes and I have recently decided to make sure it gets sorted. Now I understand that freezing is a very general problem and can be caused by hundreds of different things but I have been fishing around the web for some solutions and was referred to run both eventvwr.msc and devmgmt.msc and look through them to hopefully diagnose the underlying problem. Problem is I have good general computer knowledge but not enough to pinpoint the exact problem and rectify it.

This is were I was hoping you guys could help, here are my results;

devmgmt.msc - I clicked 'show hidden devices' and everything looked fine apart from a yellow warning symbol beside the mouse, but I doubt thats what is causing the problem.

eventvwr.msc - this is were I think I may have found the problem;

Application - quite a few '.NET Runtime Optimization' errors
Various application Hang errors
A slew of google update warnings

Security - Everything seems to be fine, can't see any errors.

System - Tons of 'atapi' errors stating 'device/Ide/Ideport3 not ready for access'
Alot of CDROM errors
A few 'Service Control Manager' errors

Here is what I know about the computer's specification incase that helps;

AMD Athlon 4800+ X2 2.5 Ghz
2048mb RAM
nVidia GeForce 7600gt 256mb

Asrock mobo (sorry I don't know anymore than that)
PSU is 500W or under (not certain)

I hope that this information is enough for somebody out there to label the problem and can suggest a remedy for me.

Thanks in advance.

Hey, my brothers birthday is coming up and i thought a new pc would be a good presesnt (me n a few others chipping in together, i couldnt afford it alone.), the thing is when it comes to PC gaming my brother is abit of a World of Warcraft addict and in the end all he will really care about is that WoW runs on high at a good framrate. Just wondering if you thought that this PC spec would do the job.

AMD Athlon X2 4600

2gb DDR2 RAM

Nvidia Geforce 7600gt 256mb

250gb hard-drive

One other thing I was wondering, would a standard 300/350watt Power Supply Unit be enough to keep everything running well? and would you be able to perhaps tell me exactly how well WoW would run? Thanks in advance.

Someone told me that the 8800gt connects to your monitor via DVI cable instead of VGA but my monitor only seems to support VGA, so im just wondering if there is anything I can do without buying a new monitor?

How much difference will that 1GB of RAM make performance wise?
