Ernesto Viso appears to have escaped serious injury following a massive accident in the GP2 feature race at Magny-Cours saw him barrel-roll over a retaining wall on the run to the Nurburgring chicane.
The Venezuelan was attempting to make up early places when he was launched over the back of Michael Ammermuller's ART Grand Prix car following initial contact with Kazuki Nakajima, as the three appeared to be close to running three abreast. The flight of the car was then such that, after being pitched on its end by first touchdown, it hit the wall and rolled along its length before disappearing on the infield side. The driver's helmet was close to the concrete on first impact, but it is understood that the top of the nose section just ahead of the cockpit bore the brunt of the collision.
Although there was little movement from the cockpit, and medical team quickly encircled the car, Viso is thought to have got away lightly.
"It was a huge, huge accident," a spokesman for the driver told Crash.net, "Fortunately, Ernesto's father has told me that EJ is uninjured, other than taking a hit to one arm.
"Just for precaution, he will spend tonight at the hospital in Nevers, but I repeat that he is okay and without any serious injury."
The Venezuelan, who only returned to the series with Racing Engineering this weekend, is also understood to have suffered a concussion, but is otherwise unharmed.
"Today has been a day with three bits of good news for Racing Engineering but, first and most important, Ernesto is fine after his horrific crash," team boss Alfonso d'Orleans Borbon confirmed, "We haven't yet got the official report from the FIA doctors, but we have been told that he's conscious, talking and out of danger - although they will keep him under observation."
The race was suspended for nearly an hour while the clear-up was completed, but had already lost five cars, with the iSport duo of Andi Zuber and Timo Glock having taken each other out at the start.

Welcome to Round 8 of the F1PU Vision Championship 2007!
Here are the Rules:
1. You predict the top three drivers in the qualification and in the race.
2. You receive 3 points for each right prediction, and plus 3 points for each exact predicted position.
3. You receive only 3 points if the driver you predicted was in the top three but not in the exact predicted position.
4. You lose 1 point only if the driver you chose was not in the top three OR if the driver was DNF.
5. The deadline to sign up is 16th of June before the qualifying session. Late predictions will NOT be accepted.
6. You can enter this championship anytime during the sesaon, but you will start from zero points.
7. You will not be penalized for not predicting for a race, but you'll not receive any points neither.
8. Guessing the Fastest lap can be made, the closest person to the fastest lap of the race will score 1pt.
Example:
If you predict Alonso first, Kimi second and Hamilton third but the results were Alonso first, Kimi third and Hamilton DNF. Then
you recieve (3+3) points for Alonso, you receive (3) points for Kimi, and you receive (-1) points for Hamilton Your score would be= 8 points.
F1 has the best safety standards in all motorsports i think, and now that drivers can live through huge accidents, Kubica, Ralf Schumacher. etc. the rules of 94, IMO should be brought back. no driver aids. no winglets on cars, engines and chassis can be designed anyway they like.
It would be so much more interesting if the rules were back to how they were :)
