i think happy endings are what to be expected most of the time and is delivered because that is what people want the most. however, sad endings are just as good, it just depends on how the ending is delivered. :) i like almost all endings

perhaps people like a fictional character because they wish they could meet a person in real life just like them. or....they're just lonely either one i guess. but ive met a few people who are in love with them.
