So Bethesda has confirmed it will start working on Elder Scrolls V once Fallout 3 is finished...woo! Now let's all gather round and do one of those "Hey I want this!" posts...and if you don't like these posts...why did you click on this? Stop looking for a fight!

So here are my wants.

First off...BETTER STORY! Now, the plotlines have always been good, but to me the main character has always felt so disconnected in all 4 games. If you read any of my other posts, you may have discovered by entire disdain of the silent protagonist, for I believe entirely that they ruin game depth. I mean...the games typically find a guy in prison...and no reason is given. Then...s/he gets out of prison...and gets tasked with doing something monumental...to which we are not treated to ANY human emotion. The character needs a past! Make it customizable if you must (i.e. Mass Effect), but not just make it some guy! They include soo many ways to customize the characters appearance and yet there is nothing for the characters personae.

Going along with the prior, I would like a voice actor for the main character, as well as more voice actors period. Elder Scrolls IV had a great line-up for story-worthy people...but having the same voice for every member of a race seems humorously racist...apparently all High Elves sound alike!

Next...change the combat. I'd like to see it less like an RPG with HP and what not, and have the combat be more...well...combat. In Elder Scrolls IV...I found it to be frustratingly hard. If you were a pure fighter, you spent most fights swinging two or three times then running away. If you were an archer, you had to unleash a full 100 arrows on enemies to kill them, regardless of shooting them in the face. And magic users were a wholeeee lot of running. Having a blended class seemed almost impossible unless you lowered the difficulty. Having a magic/fighter class just meant have nowhere near enough MP to heal your high HP, so again...a lot of running. I want to see stabbings and quick kills, a little more flash to the fights. Magic could have been much cooler...I want to be able to send guys flying with an explosive blast...as opposed to cutting away at their HP over a period of an hour. Dark Messiah of Might and Magic started doing this, though not too well, but still...aim more for that.

Next...dual weapons. Pretty simple there, not much explanation needed.

Hybrid races would be awesome. Take two races and interbreed them to make a hybrid race, i.e. Elf-Human, Human-Orc, Nord-Redguard, Nord-Breton, etc. I think this would dramatically increase depth, as it would blend skills and abilities, and would definitely make having a blended character class easier to pull off (such as Redguard/Breton being a Spellsword)

Boats! I want to see boats and ships out on the water!

Horse-drawn carriages would be a nice effect

Remove the "You gain levels, they gain levels" aspect. It seems like in an RPG, you are to be rewarded for being stronger. For instance, if you can't get through an area, you go and level up so it will be easier...as opposed to it getting harder.

Customize the body. Add scars, body hair, body fat, muscle, tattoos, brandings...the whole lot. I want that.

I have a lot more but I think I should probably hold off for more opinions.

So another trailer was released....and again...no Lightsaber combat. I will almost certainly buy this game, but it just seems like they are putting a little too much focus on the Force powers. I can see GameSpot ripping them up for that in the review.

What is so frustrating is that ALL they would have to do is put in a handful of bad ass Lightsaber animations....and the game would double in variety. Right now the game looks like it may get repetitive.

Maybe I'm being too hard on it though....thoughts?

I can see why people enjoyed it, but personally I just more so enjoy a game with dialogue and breaks from continuous going about and killing things. I actually DID enjoy that the game felt no need to insert little monsters to fight in between fighting Colossi, that would have taken away from it. I don't know, I just found it frustrating to do these things for what seemed to me as an unmotivated task for me, the player. I can understand it is a story of love, but for me I would have connected more if they had spoken about it, had deep moments where this comes out, instead of "He loves her, he wants to save her" *rides off to save her*

Again, just my opinion.

See, Final Fantasy Tactics is likely my favorite story line of the series, but I just didn't find the lead character of FF12 to be nearly as interesting...or even interesting at all! It's like...they built up a back story for him and never fleshed it out. Ramza of FFT was just an amazing character with so much depth, and his motives were clear, whereas Vaan just...wasn't in my opinion. I wish they would have built up more depth for him, or just left him out and had Balthier or Ashe be the lead character.

Well that didn't even bother me...I like things like that. It just seems like Final Fantasy has almost always been based around an amazing protagonist...whereas Vaan literally just had no tie in. Ashe should have been the main character.

They should just remake Final Fantasy VII already haha

I am curious as to what kind of reasoning compelled you to equate a silent protagonist with no narrative...

UpInFlames

Well I say that because a vast majority of games with a silent protagonist don't have a narrator...thus not truly a narrative. The common example here seems to be Half-Life...really, only observing gamers can figure out any real details of that game. I credit myself as being very intuitive with games, and yet even I have looked up just what exactly is going on.

Don't get me wrong, I love when a game leaves little things to find, such as random letters or newspaper articles to fill in small gaps, but when the game is entirely dependent on me finding everything out on my own, without any kind of reaction from the guy I'm playing, it's sorta weird.Again, I'm not saying this is a concrete bad thing, it's just my opinion.

I find it to be an extremely lazy decision on the developers half. Wander in Shadow of the Colossus isn't silent and he is the character that I find myself attached to the most. So obviously, being silent has nothing to do with immersing the player.foxhound_fox

Exactly. I would say my favorite character in gaming would be Raziel from the Legacy of Kain series...and this was ENTIRELY due to his incredible narration of the games events.

Though a side note, I was not a fan of Shadow of the Colossus. Great imagery, great concept, but it felt too loose. It's like, I didn't feel good about defeating a colossus. It was like "Good job, you beat that one...now go kill another one over there"...as opposed to "You get this for doing that, you are more skilled now, congrats!" Just my opinion. Also, the fact that they were too lazy to translate it really irritated me.

I'm discovering that I am very picky haha lol

Well see I'm not even worried about limb severing. In Jedi Outcast, if you struck a guy he fell over...whereas the two times in these webdocs that you see someone struck with a Lightsaber, they fly back like they were hit with a club.

I mean, these guys are putting INSANE debth into Force Powers, but really the bread and butter of being a Jedi for most (IMO) is just feeling like a bad ass with a Lightsaber! And as for it being too easy if you can cut people down in one hit...I say no to that...just put more guys! Have a swarm of thirty Stormtroopers coming at me and one hit kills aren't that big of a deal.

Another issue I thought of that I'm sure WILL be in it, is boss battles being repetitive. Ever since Mario, boss battles have a "do this and repeat" mentality. I want a free-form boss battle, where there is no certain way to beat them, just all out skill. Like I guarantee it will be "Force throw a crate at boss, strike boss with Lightsaber...repeat". You'd think a Jedi enemy would eventually catch on to this tactic haha.

I dunno, the better this game looks, the more I worry...LucasArts is notorious for screwing up great games. KOTOR 1 & 2 were phenomenal...had their glitches, but overall just so good, ESPECIALLY in storyline. Hopefully FU does really well that way they will FINALLY start making KOTOR 3

Yeah it's a little too late for Gordon to start talking now, so I am willing to let that go...but I think RPG's should embrace BioWares concept, where you can choose what is said. That is VERY immersive, and accomplished what is set out.

Though I would credit Suikoden as being one of the first RPG's to make complicated choices up to the player (i.e. whether to recruit a former enemy, or decapitate him)

So I just moved into a new apartment that provides internet for the entire complex through a router. I tried to set up my Xbox Live but it won't find the IP address. Is this something I have to talk the landlord about, or is it something I can set up on my own?

Side-note: Live worked fine at my old house, so it's not my account that is the issue.
