morality is a made up concept created for our own convenience.

I disagree people will follow their moral judgement even when it's inconvenient for them. For example today I didn't lie about my reason for avoiding a meeting when it would have been so easy, but my pesky morality got in the way(j/p I like my morality)

if you arent "moral" how can you expect others to be?

it's just a complex agreement created by society.

some people live above our societies moral obligations and don't expect other's to do the same how do you account for that?

Follow my thinking please. A rock is made up of matter, and energy, made by natural processes. If I pick up a hammer, and bust up a rock, no one would call me evil. But, A human is made up of matter, and energy, made by natural processes. If I pick up a hammer and bust a human's head open people  would call me evil.

Why is that? If naturalism is true then why is it wrong to kill people... with hammers. lol

The point of this post is to find out what people believe is a natural reason for morality, but focus on the scenario.

Rocks aren't alive Don't feel pain Don't have emotion And You're an idiot

I'll be an idiot, cool. Why does it matter if humans feel pain, and have emotion before they die? Why is it wrong? What makes it evil to kill things with emotion or sentience. an interesting counter to that. A mosquito feels pain and as far as we know could have all the emotion in the world but most people swat them with ease.

Why does a human life matter?

Because society has decided that it does.

Bump Society it's fickle, Give me an argument that's reasonable.

This^ Also, the idea that atheist don't have morals is ridiculous. Morals aren't exclusive to one religion. Look at the different religions of the world, they share many of the same morals. Morality is bigger than religion. It's a human thing.

He's not saying athiest don't have morals, that's ridiculous everyone has morals. He's saying that there is no foundation for those morals. Your making the argument into something it's not.

I heard somewhere that people with Philosophy undergrad degrees make the best law school students because they know how to think critically, a skill sorely lacking in much of the population.Allicrombie
That's interesting. I actually think it's because of the way our society is. Most of us (me included) do not use our time to sit and reflect, but, instead keep ourselves preoccupied with entertainment such as tv, music, movies, and video games(though involves critical thinking in their own right it's often a very shallow version of it).I think critical thinking is like a skill, it takes focus and effort to hone it.

Is this a shoddy attempt at having the internet do your HW for you?

coolbeans90
Nope it's just in my book, not a HW assignment, just thought it was interesting.
