Evil local CBS affiliates

My local CBS affiliate, Wednesday night, decided to show local programming (some show on Oklahomans) instead of Criminal Minds.  I don't even remember which rerun it was supposed to be, but it was before I started watching each episode more than once, so I'm pretty irritated.  I was going to review each episode as I watched the reruns.

To pass the time, tonight, my last night at my current job assignment, I had a crossover fanfic running through my head.  I don't write them down.  Well, maybe notes in my journal so I can remember the really good/amusing ones later, but I don't actually "write fanfic."  But I had a really, really good ("good," of course, being a relative term) plot twist pop into my head:

Criminal Minds/General Hospital -

Gideon is the father of Sam McCall, having been the "boy" Alexis slept with at boarding school all those years ago.

Now, the obvious problem is time, because I think Gideon is too old to have been at school the same time as Alexis, but since I don't think they've ever said his age, we could maybe work with that.  :-)  Wouldn't Gideon and Alexis make a great couple?  And there you have a great soap plot element - girl discovers father she never knew right after he's just shot the man she loves: Gideon had shot Jason (Morgan) after Jason shot Emily (Prentiss).

Here's my plot:  The BAU was in Port Charles investigating Alcazar's misdeeds, and somehow the BAU got caught in a bad deal between Alcazar's men and Sonny's - I was fuzzy on why exactly they were there, but everyone's always on the docks in Port Charles at some point for some reason.  Emily gets shot (problem - too many of the same names in the two shows), everyone ends up at GH, Sonny not happy with Gideon, Alexis comes through to meet with Hotch (forget Ric, forget the chemo, she's the DA) about the shooting, she and Gideon see each other, awkward moment, Sonny makes things worse and mentions the girls, Gideon says something like "you're the DA and have a daughter with a mobster..." cue Sam rushing in to check on Jason.  Cue Gideon NOT being an idiot who can't count backwards like most men on soaps.  He asks, Alexis admits it.  Not sure if they would tell Sam when she's in typical Sam-mode, being hysterical and going off on Gideon for shooting Jason when of course he had "done nothing."  Not sure exactly how Gideon would react when one of his team was in surgery and they still had a case to work on, too.  And these are the reasons I just don't write the fanfic.  :-)  But!  I like the idea!

Anyone who wants to write it, let me know so I can read it afterwards.  ;-)

Criminal Minds after the Superbowl!

How much of a dork am I that I am so happy that Criminal Minds got the post-Super Bowl spot?  I remember being this happy when Alias got that spot, also in the second season, so of course I'm just as happy that my new favorite show got it too.

However, that was when JJ went all nutso and decided to use that episode to bring down SD-6 (this is so sad - it just took me 10 minutes and finally breaking down and looking it up online to remember that name - I could only think of Studio 60!!!!!), which was kind of the beginning of the end, in a way...

I have much more faith in the people with Criminal Minds.  Not having an overall story arc to break in a fit of madness (just a theory) means a more stable quality of said stories.  Short arcs are good - the thing with Elle was GOOD, imho.  Everyone has a breaking point, especially if they pretend they don't.

I miss JMS.  Sigh.  (speaking of huge overall story arcs which cover the entire series - he's the only one who can do them RIGHT, apparently)  I can't wait until he has a show on again.

WHY do I not have B5 on DVD??

Well, I'm still getting Criminal Minds first.

Profiler, Profiled - Criminal Minds

Since I have just discovered the blog function here, I am going to go back and copy and paste my LiveJournal entry from the night that "Profiler; Profiled" aired last week:

SIGH.

We know how picky I am about timelines, so it should come as no surprise that I noticed this.  However, it SHOULD come as a surprise that I did not actually notice it until my second viewing of this episode, which I watched a total of three times (for some parts - I couldn't watch the ending a third time, it was too intense, and Shemar Moore deserves an award for that) (of course, he had excellent training on Y&R).  I didn't notice it until I was looking at the gravestone during my second viewing and idly thinking that it was a little over a year before I got married that it fictionally happened.  And then I was thinking that Morgan was only 4 years younger than me (they put out the APB for a 33 yr old, I'm 37).  And then it hit me - how could he have been 15 a year before I turned 23 if he's only 4 years younger than me??  That just didn't add up.

So, being obsessed with time as I am, I rewound and started trying to figure out if I had missed something.  But no.  They did.  His date of birth in the screen shot is June 6th, 1973.  So in December of 1991, which is when he said he was 15 and found the first dead body that started the whole thing, he would have been 18.

Why didn't they just have the year be 1988?  They mention the year 1991 a LOT.  They have it in newspaper clippings, on the gravestone... why could no one add before that?

Sigh.

Other than that, excellent episode.  WAY excellent.  Made a person totally fall in love with Morgan even if they didn't already think Shemar Moore was incredibly gorgeous.  However, I have to confess, the main reason I was watching it a second time was that the episode was so Morgan-centric I had to watch it twice to get my Gideon-fix for the week.  :-)

The bad thing about season one being released on DVD at the end of November is that, while I am pretty sure I did NOT get it for Christmas, I can't really get it for myself until after the holidays anyway.  SIGH.  That is soooo frustrating.  I'm going to go to Blockbuster later and see if they have it so I can at least rent the first DVD.  That's not buying.
