@Coseniath@PredatorRules@insane_metalist

These 4 motherboards are easily available locally for the mentioned price. Which one do you guys prefer?

$179 Gigabyte GA-Z170XP-SLI

$185 ASUS Z170-K

$216 ASUS Z170 PRO GAMING

$216 ASUS Z170-A

As Coseniath said, it's better to get a mobo that supports DDR4. About SLI, I'm not so sure. Crossfire might be enough for me. SLI is a long shot because I'll keep the R9 390 for at least 5 years, or even crossfire it with another R9 390 and make it work for 7-8 years. That's just a thought. But I don't think the mobo will last long enough to survive that 5-8 years and still be up to a period of SLI.

Also, the cheapest R9 390 that is available here is the Gigabyte GV-R939G1 GAMING-8GD for around $370. Is it good enough? The others are more expensive at $420 Sapphire Nitro Tri-X OC, $425 MSI Gaming, $425 HIS, $425 XFX, $435 ASUS Strix and other more expensive ones.

Again, I'm on a budget and would not want to spend more than I have to. So guide me where I should spend more and where I should make compromises, while still getting the best features as well as performance.

I'll be posting later regarding other parts. And the prices are high compared to US ones due to shipping cost.

@Coseniath Why would I need an SLI motherboard when I'm getting an AMD card?

And I'm unable to find a 290 locally. I'll try and find a store that has it.

The tracker would have been cooler. I hope someone else could find me something of that sort.

What sort of "IP camera" do you suggest? Any specific one? And I don't think I'd want to buy a whole UPS system for this purpose.

Hey, guys.

I'm going to build my first PC soon and it's going to be well over a thousand bucks. I was wondering how can I protect it from being stolen or something. I'm going to be living in a hostel for the next six years (college? hell yeah!) and this thought has been haunting me for the past couple of weeks.

Is there some sort of a PCI card or something like that which acts as a GPS tracker? I would love such a device which I can track using my smartphone or a web browser.

Call me paranoid or whatever you want but I can't risk my first PC to be stolen by a dishonest roommate.

@insane_metalist I'll keep those brands in mind while shopping.

As for PSUs, how about these: Corsair VS550 $50, Thermaltake TR2 $88, Corsair CS550M $95

@PredatorRules Really appreciate that. The price difference between the processors is huge. What about the performance? But since the 6600k is using the new socket, I'll be able to upgrade the CPU alone rather than the motherboard as well. Can't say the same about the 4460, can I?

Besides, I think it's better to keep at the extreme. Either get a $500 PC now and stay with it for 3-4 years before replacing it, or get a $1000 PC now and keep it for 6 or more years. Buying the PC that's in-between wouldn't be that cost-efficient. Unless you prove me wrong. I'd love to be proved wrong. After all, who the hell would want to spend more than is required?

I would also like an upgrade path, if there should be one, to keep going for the next 6 (or more) years for as cheap as possible.

@PredatorRules: What's that about?

@insane_metalist Yeah, I'll keep different brands in mind while shopping. But isn't the PowerColor a low rated brand?

@04dcarraher That helps. You really make sense. :) I'll keep that in mind when I go out to actually buy the cards. 290 if it's $50 or cheaper than the 390. Otherwise, the 390.

@insane_metalist@Coseniath@PredatorRules@GTR12

Would you guys recommend any better parts or improvements to this build? Anything cheaper that would do the same thing? Any advice?

I've got some flexibility in my budget. Should I still not go for the R9 390? I don't want to deal with the mail-in rebates. And I won't be buying it from an online website because in case it needs repair or something like that, I wouldn't be comfortable with sending it overseas for the company to have a look at it. In short, I'll be buying it from a local store. If the price of the 290 is $300 and that of the 390 is $330, will or will not the 390 be worth the extra $30?

@04dcarraher Actually, the 270X has 4GB as well.
http://www.amazon.com/Sapphire-version-PCI-Express-Graphics-11217-04-20G/dp/B00FLMKN6I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1443515402&sr=8-1&keywords=270x
And if what you say is true, why is the 390 still more expensive than the 290?

@insane_metalist Why is "new socket" a good reason to buy the new processor? Is it because in the future there will be newer processors with the same socket, providing me a nice upgrade path?

I'm unable to find a good deal on the 290 which would convince me to buy it over the 270X. Somebody help me out? Maybe convince me that the 290 is at par with the 970 and 390, both of which are at $330 price point.

@PredatorRules So it'd be better to get an SSD down the line, right? I think I can live without fast booting and loading times.

What's the cheapest I should go with a graphics card? I mean if I'm going to upgrade it in 3 or more years, why not get something cheaper than the 290 and which will suffice for now like the 270/X? Or is 290 the bare minimum to survive the next few years?

On another note, what's up with the amazon.com prices of AMD cards? R9 270 2GB = ($220-280), R9 270X 4GB= ($190), R7 370 2GB = ($150), R7 370 4GB = ($180), Why are the 3xx cards cheaper than the 2xx cards, even though they are better
